Quotes:

Bassist Tom Peterson and Guitarist Rick Neilson were in a band called Fuse before Cheap Trick was formed in 1973. They put out one single ("Hound Dog" b/w "Crusin for Burgers") in 1969 and only one album, called 'Fuse' in January 1970 Rick: "Tom Petersson and I were in a Midwest band called Fuse. The guys we were with were all rinky dinks; they’re probably pumping gas now. Tom and I had the stick-to-it-iveness and positive thinking to know what we wanted to do, so we split the band and went off to hang out in England.... That Fuse stuff stinks. We don’t stand by it" Tom: "The band was much better than the album indicates. When it came out we were disgusted. The producer was an idiot." Rick and Tom went on to form a new band called Sick Man of Europe which led to Cheap Trick.

For the infamous 2016 campaign, the Republican Party offered the band $100,000 to play at a concert launching the 2016 Republican National Convention. Singer Robin Zander said, "We turned it down. Then we had second thoughts. Maybe we should have accepted it—but we would all have got swastika guitars made." Cheap Trick is known for making flip remarks all the time.

a parody of "Surrender" by Cheap Trick
After hearing this song at a local store, and listening to the lyrics of the 1st verse, i got the idea for this parody. In fact the line that goes "You'll Never Know What You'll Catch" made it the perfect song to do a Corona Virus parody of.

Funniest Song Lyrics:

"Surrender"
The Funny Lyrics:
Then I woke up, Mom and Dad are rolling on the couch
Rolling numbers, rock n rollin
Got my kiss records out
Why They're Funny:
Actually, the whole song is funny. But this part just cracks me up. Anyone who's ever seen Rick Nielsen on stage knows he's a riot. But just imagining what his parents must've been like...and knowing they were both opera singers...I don't know. Just the idea of two opera singers having sex on the couch at 3 am while listening to kiss cracks me up!

Misrhymed Song Lyrics:

"Surrender"
The Misrhymed Lyrics:
Mother told me, yes, she told me I'd meet girls like you.
She also told me, 'Stay away, you'll never know what you'll catch.'
Just the other day I heard a soldier falling off
some Indonesian junk that's going round.
Why They're Misrhymed:
Ok, bascially most of the song doesn't rhyme. I know it doesn't HAVE to but it just sounds weird. I like the song though.

Dated Song Lyrics:

"Surrender"
The Dated Lyrics:
Father says your mother's right
She's really up on things
Before we married Mommy served
In the WACs in the Philippines
Now I had heard the WACs recruited
Old maids for the war
But Mommy isn't one of those
I've known her all these years
Why They're Dated:
The Women's Army Corps disbanded the year the song was released
Submitted by: Kerry
"Taxman Mr. Thief "
The Dated Lyrics:
Taxman, Mr. Heath (he's a thief)
He's looking for run-in, yeah
Why They're Dated:
Edward Heath was no longer Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1977, when this Cheap Trick song came out. James Callaghan was then the PM ; Furthermore, as Americans Cheap Trick would not have reason to worry about the UK tax system. The song was a tribute to the Beatles' 'Taxman', which did mention Heath (then Leader of the Opposition).

"Underwear"
That's right. I was searching and fooling around on the Amazon website and BION there is a page where you can buy under 'apparel' a set of 'Cheap Trick Bang Zoom Crazy Hello Logo Basic Cotton Underwear'. It doesn't specify which gender it's for but the model wearing them seems to have a feminine figure. On the derierre is a picture of a sexy woman with big hair waring heels, a leather bikini, leather leg-warmers - and she's holding up Rick Neilson's famous 5-neck guitar. And of course there's the famous 'Cheap Trick' double-name logo on the side. I've never seen any swag like this at any of the seven Cheap Trick shows I've been to. Nonetheless, they had a hit in 1982 with 'She's Tight!' and now YOU can be too, courtesy of the band!

"Souvenir for 'Surrender'"
We all know that guitarist Rick Neilson does some notorious, sometimes kooky stuff during a Cheap Trick concert. Every show has a few songs you can count on them playing and 'Surrender' is one of them. When Robin Zander sings, 'Whatever happened to all this season's losers of the year? / Every time I got to thinking, where'd they disappear? / When I woke up, mom and dad are rolling on the couch. / Rolling numbers, rock and rolling, got my KISS records out'. then Rick tosses a souvenir to the audience and of course people try to catch it just like they do Rick's guitar picks. Well, it's not a KISS record but it's a Cheap Trick LP outer cover (no LP or jacket inside) and it is sealed. Glued into the LP cover's perimeter are guitar picks from the band and the designs on them are all different. Rick tosses this item at every show during this song. Last night I saw the band play again and after their show I ran into the lucky couple who caught the item Rick tossed. It was just as described here - the album featured was the 1979 classic 'At Budokan' and the copy was SIGNED by the band members! This was the first time I actually saw one of these special souvenirs and that's because I happened to run into the lucky couple who caught the valuable collector's item. Lucky bastards ; )

"Guitarist's comical persona"
First time I saw this band guitarist Rick Neilson wore a sweater adorned with skulls and a ballcap. He talked about how they were going to play a lot of hits that night, and he commented about popular music in 1989. He praised Aerosmith, INXS, AC/DC...and then he quipped that this 'Tiffany and Debby Gibson should be taken to the fucking K-mart for a full refund!'. Cheers erupted. He continued, 'cause that's some really BAD SHIT!'. He pulled his cap down and glared comically to more audience cheering. He glared and then opined some more, 'It's BAAAAAD SHIT! And we're here to deliver some solid rock'n'roll for you tonight'. And did they EVER!

"tossing guitar picks into crowd"
Guitarist Rick Neilson often flicks guitar picks into the crowd while he plays his guitars. He also scoops into a bucket and chucks more picks into the audience, making people scramble to catch them for souvenirs. The picks always are decorated in some fashion. I got 2 picks from the band from different shows and they're never the same design twice.

What A Band is Best Known For (aside from their music):

"Guitarist's Beard"
In the mid 90s to the mid 00s or so guitarist Rick Neilson sported a very thin mustache and a beard that tapered to a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG thread that had a bag (teabag?) dangling from it. Sometime in the 00s decade he shaved it off and sold the shavings and bag on E-Bay and donated all the proceeds to charity.

"Catalog Dispute"
Their 1999 live CD 'Music For Hangovers' is listed as CT's SECOND official (authorized) live release. Before the Trick (and other bands) were dumped by the major record labels in the big mid 90s reshuffling, their old company Epic released 'Budokan II' in 1993. The CD tray for 'Music For Hangovers' lists their whole authorized catalog, without 'Budokan II' and it lists 2 authorized videos. The comes the disclaimer: BUYER BEWARE!: Any other Cheap Trick releases are unauthorized and not sanctioned by the band. BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!'. The CD tray of the next album, 'Special One' from 2003 shows a panorama of authorized Cheap Trick albums incl. the 1980 EP 'Found All the Parts' but still no 'Budokan II'. Strange enough, some (but not all) of the tracks of that album appear on the 1998 2-CD set 'At Budokan: The Complete Concert' which IS listed as 'authorized' (the 1979 classic 'At Budokan' being the first).

"Insane popularity in Japan"
In Japan, Cheap Trick are often called the American Beatles. I also shouldn't have to say it, but "Live At Budokan" was originally a Japan-only release. And their only official compilation album has an extra disc on the Japanese version.
