Music Quotes:
My biggest influence has always been reggae. I can also remember being very much into Tamla Motown. I fancied myself as the Balsall Heath answer to Michael Jackson. - Ali Campbell (vocalist, 1984) Submitted by: LucidLupin

Band Name Origins:
- UB-40 stands for "Unemployment Benefits" form #40, a reference somewhat well-known in the UK but not known in the states. The boys came up with the name for the band while standing in line at the unemployment office. From a Rolling Stone interview. Submitted by: Bob
- UB40 was in actual fact the name of the form you had to complete to receive unemployment benefit at that time in Britain. This is why their first album was called "Signing Off". The album cover was a mock UB40 form. Submitted by: Barbara

Story about this misheard lyric by: Eric Andrews Anyone else who sings this enunciates it clearly enough. But the way Ali Campbell does, it really sounds like he's coming out against the wearing of denim. Are Dockers supposedly better? |

Repetitive Lyrics:
"Come Back Darling"
The Repetitive Lyrics: Come back darling, give me another try
I'll keep you satisfied Why They're Repetitive: The song lasts 3:29. The background music hardly changes...and to add to the excitement, these are the only lyrics in the song. No wonder the woman didn't come back.

| "(Sing) Our Own Song (12' version)"
The Repetitive Lyrics: Amandla Awethu
Why They're Repetitive: This is in the 12' version, the last half of the track, or about three minutes, the background singers just repeat Amandla Awethu over and over.

Misrhymed Lyrics:
"Stick By me"
The Misrhymed Lyrics: Our friends may try to hurt us,
Scandalise our name. Why They're Misrhymed: The funny thing is, I always thought this rhymed until I saw the lyrics. But don't blame ub40: in their defence, they didn't write the song.
