"Shout"
Misheard Lyrics: They gave you life
And in return, you gave them h***. Original Lyrics: They gave you life
And in return, you gave them hell. |
Story about this misheard lyric by: Sarah A couple of friends and I were up really late listening to this song. After it was over, we were all silent for a minute. I asked them, "Did anyone else hear him say something about giving h***?" I'm not sure if everyone was laughing at it or laughing at my stupidity. |

Funny Lyrics:
"Everybody Loves A Happy Ending"
The Funny Lyrics: Fill up your bath and kitchen sink
Why They're Funny: If someone filled up their bath and kitchen sink, they would have to know what to use first because either would go cold in a matter of minutes! Track 2 from the album of the same might have the answer to this lyric because the simmilar lyric is 'Bath water and the baby'. So as a fan, I am guessing that the kitchen sink is filled with water for the baby and the water in the bath is for the person who is the parent of the baby. This is why this lyric is funny! It's a posed question!!

Repetitive Lyrics:
"Mothers Talk (Beat of the Drum Mix)"
The Repetitive Lyrics: James Brown, James Brown, James Brown, James Brown
Why They're Repetitive: This is a remix of a single from "Songs from the Big Chair" and is found on the deluxe edition reissue of the CD. The song is mostly instrumental, but in parts of the song Roland Orzabal repeats "James Brown" multiple times in the background. This backing vocal is not heard in the original version.

| "Lord of Karma"
The Repetitive Lyrics: Bite your lip and swing your hips
And be selective, be objective No pain, no gain, no pain, no gain, no pain, no gain... Why They're Repetitive: "No pain, no gain" is repeated a total of 6 times.

Nonsensical Lyrics:
"Power"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: Power now! Power how! Power wow! Here's power!!
Why They're Nonsensical: Uh, say what? You must be kidding. Roland Orzabal actually wrote these lyrics with the intention of singing and then releasing them? Whew.... Talk about your filler....

Misrhymed Lyrics:
"Fish Out of Water"
The Misrhymed Lyrics: With all your high class friends, you think you got it made
The only thing you made was that tanned look on your face.... But now it’s sink or swim since your memory fails Now in Neptune’s kitchen, you will be food for killer whales. Why They're Misrhymed: Don't get me wrong, I like this song, but some of the lines, like these ones, stick out like sore thumbs. And they could have fit in some of the other song categories, such as insulting lyrics, but these four lines in particular sound so forced that they're some of the most awkward lines Roland Orzabal ever wrote. As for the first two lines, uh, geez, he tries to rhyme made with face. And even worse, the second line has more syllables than the first making it sound forced as if he didn't have time to think it out more. And now to the last two lines... while he does get two rhyming words (fails and whales) the last line sounds terribly forced. Even if these lines may have the same amount of syllables, it sounds even more poorly paired than the first two.

Inappropriate Lyrics:
"Everybody Wants To Rule The World"
The Inappropriate Lyrics: Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Why They're Inappropriate: What they mean is that pretty much everyone in politics wants a pie piece. And when they are in hot water, they make sure they have their a** covered. Read the lyrics to see what I mean...

Upbeat Songs With Depressing Lyrics:
"The Way You Are"
The Lyrics: Going far, getting nowhere
Going far, the way you are Going far, getting nowhere Going far, the way you are These fingers aren't my fingers These hands are not my hands No one sees and no one cares What gets broken Why: These lyrics are set against a bouncy, bright synth-pop accompaniment.

| "Lord of Karma"
The Lyrics: There's been some knockin', there's been some heavy knockin'
It sounds like someone wants to break down the door My superego, where I go, he go He come a-reapin', come a-keepin' the score And I say, Lord of Karma, your mystic pain-o-rama One good reason keep my feet on the ground Lord of Karma, your mystic pain-o-rama Come-a-come on down Why: The song really rocks out with Roland Orzabal's guitar riffs and fast tempo, but the lyrics are about psychological struggle.
