Quotes:

I learned in the last few years that it's really unhappy and really unsustainable to try and base your well being on something as arbitrary as record sale and critical acclaim and the interests of the public. All of those things are so fickle. So my approach now to music is I want to make records that I love, and I hope that other people love them, then that's OK.
- Moby (quoted on CNN.com March 2005)

It just seem like musicians want to sell a few records and put out a perfume line, and I think it's so sad that there are so many musicians who don't want to change the world... Music has been so much more.

- Moby (quoted on CNN.com March 2005)

Intellectually, human beings and animals may be different, but it's pretty obvious that animals have a rich emotional life and that they feel joy and pain. It's easy to forget the connection between a hamburger and the cow it came from. But I forced myself to acknowledge the fact that every time I ate a hamburger, a cow had ceased to breathe and moo and walk around.
- Moby

Band Name Origins:

  • In an interview with Spin magazine, Moby said he picked it as an acronym for Master of Beats Y'all. Submitted by: gwen
  • Moby's(born: Richard Melville Hall) name is refering to his great great grand uncle Herman Melville who wrote the book "Moby Dick". When he was young, his parents decided that a name like Richard is to big for a baby like him, so they gave him the nick name of Moby. Submitted by: ww's sketcher

Stupid Band Names:

My girlfriend was listening to this in the car and I thought this soulful crooner was having problems with his boyfriend and I asked, 'What kind of music is this crap?'

"The Body Rock"
The Repetitive Lyrics:
Let it rock, y'all
Non-stop, y'all
To the beat, y'all
The body rock, y'all
We rock the body, rock the body
Why They're Repetitive:
These lyrics would've been repetitive even if they weren't looped over and over again throughout the song.

Nonsensical Song Lyrics:

"We Are All Made of Stars"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
People they come together
People they come apart
Nothing can stop us now
Cause we are all made of stars
Why They're Nonsensical:
The first three lines make sense, but I have no idea what the last line means - but it is actually from 2001 (the obelisk at the end of the movie is stated to be full of stars) it's a reference to that and also that we are all made of carbon and that makes up most of the universe so in essence we are made of stars.

I don't wanna fight the tide
I don't wanna swim forever
When it's cold I'd like to die
