Names -> Song Titles Not Used as Lyrics -> E
Some songs have titles that aren't used in the lyrics, and end up becoming better known for their lyrics than their title. Bob Dylan's "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" is better known for the refrain "Everybody must get stoned" than it is for the title.
Band | Song | Comments & Submittor Name | ||
| Elton John | The Last Song | Some believe that this was a tribute to Elton John's father, who died in 1992. Others say that this was a tribute to Ryan White, a young AIDS patient who also died that year, and whom Elton John knew well. - Larcen Tyler | ||
| Elton John | Ballad of Daniel Bailey (1909-1934) | Though the song is about Daniel Bailey, he doesn't mention the year of his birth nor death. - Paul Warren | ||
| Elton John | Border Song | Should be called "Holy Moses" since that's mentioned more than once in the song. - Paul Warren | ||
| Elvis Presley | An American Trilogy | The title has been assigned to this medley of three songs, none of which contains the medley's title (not surprisingly). The three songs are "Dixie", "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic" (a song which itself doesn't have its title in its lyrics), and a third song that might be best known as "Hush, Litttle Baby, Don't You Cry", since that is its opening line. - Thessaly Danes | ||
| Emerson, Lake, and Palmer | Karn Evil 9 | For half an hour song, you don't even hear the title. The most popular line is 'Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends'. - Paul Warren | ||
| Enigma | Beyond The Invisible | "Beyond reality" are the lyrics closest to the title. - Mads | ||
| Enigma | Sadeness part 1 | Most of the song is sung in Latin or French - Joe H | ||
| Enya | Evacuee | From the album Carribean Blue; haunting song about leaving home - Joe H | ||
| Era | The Mass | No english lyrics. - Mads | ||
| Evanescence | Haunted | Watching me, wanting me I can feel you pull me down Fearing you, loving you I won’t let you pull me down - Erin | ||
| Evanescence | My Immortal | When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears And I held your hand through all of these years But you still have all of me - Erin | ||
| Everclear | Santa Monica | We can live beside the ocean,/ leave the fire behind,/ swim out past the breakers,/ watch the world die. - Brian Kelly |
