Band Name Origins:

  • I'd just like to put something straight- yes, most of the entries here are correct about the jamming of the band and the Iroquai tribe. ZephyrZ, however, is 100% incorrect, firstly because Jamaroqui is not one person. Second, because the lead singer of Jamiroqui's name is Jason Kay. Not Jamie Rockway. Submitted by: sunshine
  • The name Jamiroquai is a conglomeration of the word "jam" and the name of the Native American peoples, the Iroquois but mispelled "iroquai" as Jay Kay said into an interview. Submitted by: murlancio

Story about this misheard lyric by: Big Haz

This one came about when the video for this song was on TV (the one with Jay Kay jumping around the place in the flooded movie theatre showing 'Godzilla'). I'd made some comment like 'Good song' or whatever, only to be told by my brother that it didn't make any sense. He then recited those lyrics as a case in point. 'Why's the guy growing people underground? How can he do that?' After I'd put him right about the actual lyrics, it struck me that in a movie about a huge monster killing people, growing new people underground mightn't be a bad plot idea.
