Possible Misspelled Names:

These are the alternate spellings of the performer's name we've had to correct in submissions to amIright.

Talking Heads/Tom Jones, Taking Heads

Band Name Origins:

  • I can't believe this one isn't here already. A "Talking Head" shot is TV jargon for a static shot of a person (a newsreader, for example) from the shoulders up while he or she is just sitting there yakking away. I think I just explained something self-explanatory. BTW, the (official) name of the band is Talking Heads with no definite article. Submitted by: Tim Horrigan
  • I heard that the Talking Heads were constantly changing their name. When a certain degree of success finally hit (perhaps a record contract?) they were called the "Talking Heads" at the time - so they remained the Talking Heads. Submitted by: Todd Burnside

Stupid Band Names:

  • Well, duh! Talking comes from the mouth, which is located on a person's head! So naturally, the head does the talking. But doesn't that imply that the band would talk instead of sing (when they perform)? Submitted by: Russ
  • Sounds like something from a horror movie Submitted by: noskcaJ

Music Performer Nicknames:

Known informally as: Head Head. Submitted by: Floyd Pinklon

Funniest Song Lyrics:

"Once In A Lifetime"
The Funny Lyrics:
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile.
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house...with a beautiful wife.
And you may ask yourself, 'Well, how did I get here?'
(later)
And you may ask yourself, 'Where is that large automobile?'
And you may tell yourself, 'This is not my beautiful house!'
And you may tell yourself, 'This is not my beautiful wife!'
Why They're Funny:
This is so hilarious. The first time around, he names these three items, then the second time around he realizes that the person he's addressing shouldn't be thrown into this fantasy right away.
Submitted by: Quyjibo
"Burning Down The House"
The Funny Lyrics:
Three hundred sixty five degrees
Burning down the house
Why They're Funny:
As a temperature, of course it's going to burn. But what's intriguing is that if you think of this many "degrees" as angular measure, it's just a shade more than a complete revolution, so maybe it could have a double meaning.

Repetitive Song Lyrics:

"Once In A Lifetime"
The Repetitive Lyrics:
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was Same as it ever was, same as it ever was Same as it ever was, same as it ever was Same as it ever was, same as it ever was
Why They're Repetitive:
Would you believe me if I said this is the song’s entire bridge, because it actually is. I mean wow, did the singer just give up on using different words halfway though and just decide to repeat himself? (Editor: The band is just called "Talking Heads", no "The".)
Submitted by: Jack
"And She Was"
The Repetitive Lyrics:
And she was, and she was...
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey...
Why They're Repetitive:
David Byrne said the song was about a girl he knew. She must have had trouble with stammering.
Submitted by: rocky
There are additional repetitive lyrics available.

Nonsensical Song Lyrics:

"Once In A Lifetime"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
There is water, at the bottom of the ocean!
Why They're Nonsensical:
There is?!
Submitted by: Joe
"Wild, Wild Life"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
I ride a hot potato
Why They're Nonsensical:
The lyric is not only completely meaningless, but describes a totally impossible activity as well!
Submitted by: Matt E.
There are additional nonsensical lyrics available.

Inappropriate Song Lyrics:

"Stay Up Late"
The Inappropriate Lyrics:
I know you want to leave me.
Why They're Inappropriate:
This line is taken from "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" by the Temptations; why David Byrne would include it here I do not know.
Submitted by: Mickey D.
"Totally Nude"
The Inappropriate Lyrics:
A polka party for Bob and Martha
Why They're Inappropriate:
Okay, this song is about being nature and being naked in a forest. Then, Byrne inserts this line about a polka party for two people who were mentioned no where else in the song. What does a polka party have do do with nature and/or being nude?
