In the liner notes to his untitled second album (sometimes called Seal II or Seal 1994) there's a "letter to a friend". It discusses issues and problems that have plagued history, notably hate, war, racism,etc. Seal says that complacity is fast becoming a thing of the past so if you feel you can't "go on" remember that "fast changes" are coming. One might've thought along that line in 1990 after the Cold War ended peacefully but in 1994 war had become a TV drama for armchair warriors, the violent and ugly genocidal Bosnia war raged on, the hideous Rwanda genocide was on, the rise of domestic terrorism and extremist militias, hate radio and other evils had run rampant. Seal, you make really good music but did someone spike your drink?
