- Because om the original line up, Mick Jones, Al Greenwood and Ian McDonald are from England and Lou Gramm, Dennis Elliot,and Ed Gagliardi are from America. Half the band members would be considered foreigners in England and the other half would be foreigners in America. They then decided to name themselves Foreigner. Submitted by: Some Guy
