Misheard Lyrics Stories:

"Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails"
Misheard Lyrics:
I'm puttin' on my top hat.
Tyin' up my white tie.
Pushin' up my pants.
Original Lyrics:
I'm puttin' on my top hat.
Tyin' up my white tie.
Brushin' off my tails

Story about this misheard lyric by: Doug Baseball

I was 9 or 10 when I heard it in a group of songs from musicals, probably on an album being sold on TV. I didn't know the song's title, and never questioned it, because at that age, I had no idea what tails were and wouldn't have considered brushing anything. But, the word sounded like pushing anyway, and the last one kind of sounded like pants, so for many years I thought that was it.

Dirty Song Lyrics:

"Santa Claus Got Stuck In My Chimney"
The Dirty Lyrics:
Santa Claus got stuck in my chimney
Why They're Dirty:
Younger generations of kids won't understand the meaning of the song, but the word "chimney" is actually a 1950's euphemism for vagina. That song is also about someone having intercourse with a female partner.

"Love For Sale"
The Dirty Lyrics:
Love for sale
Appetizing young love for sale
Love that`s fresh and still unspoiled
Love that`s only slightly soiled

Love for sale
Who will buy?
Who would like to sample my supply?
Who`s prepared to pay the price
For a trip to paradise?

Love for sale
Appetizing young love for sale
If you want to buy my wares
Follow me and climb the stairs
Love for sale
Why They're Dirty:
This was written by Cole Porter in the 40s, and it's about prostitution. And they think we're the deviants.

Made Up Words in Songs:

"A Tisket, A Tasket"
The Made Up Words:
Tisket, Tasket
Comments:
The title line, I guess, was contrived to rhyme with "A green and yellow basket". As a child, this had me wondering for a long time what tiskets and taskets were. I never found out.
