Band Name Origins:

  • Boy George wanted to make sure that everybody knew that he was a male. Many people mistaken him to be a homosexual, but he really isn't. Weird but true. He was embarrassed about his obesity, so he smothered himself in a ton of make-up so people wouldn't know about his fatness. Submitted by: Tiger No. 27

The song was covered by Boy George in 1992 as the theme to the Neil Jordan movie, The Crying Game. Produced by the Pet Shop Boys, it turned out to be his last major hit single, reaching #22 on the UK Singles Chart, #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. and #1 in Canada. In addition the song has been covered by artists such as Brenda Lee, The Associates, Kylie Minogue, Percy Sledge, Chris Spedding, Blue System, and crooner Alex Moore.

Crime Records:

"Possesion of Drugs"
Several times, most notably in 1986, arrested in the UK for cannabis possession, and later intercepted while en route to a party under suspecion of carrying drugs. A Culture Club tour was cancelled due to this, and it disbanded not long after. Ironically, in the song "Karma Chameleon" he stated "I'm a man, without conviction"...not any more. In 2005 he was busted in the US on cocaine charges. He eventually was fined, and had to do community service.

What A Band is Best Known For (aside from their music):

"Having his drug problems outed on national TV"
George's brother David came on a U.K. TV show and blew the wistle on his heroin abuse problem.
Publicly George stated that he "hated" his brother for doing that but then he knew that there was a reason for it.
