Story about this misheard lyric by: Aaron

I was only 7 years old and was singing this. In my defense, it was near Thanksgiving and I had pie on the brain. My sister still makes fun of me about it to this day, almost 30 years later.

Super Long Pop Songs:

"Funkytown" Length: 7:51
1980's #1 hit (for four weeks in the late spring of that year), "Funkytown" is considered the last Disco hit (although that should be considered a misnomer, because dance music has continued to this day). But in many regards, "Funkytown" marks the end of an era of the original Disco music in regards to it's use of a heavy bass line in the instrumental parts. The original seven minute 51 seconds version was on the lp, "Mouth To Mouth" and became a very popular Disco/dance tune of 1980 (as well as #1 in several countries and on Billboard Magazine's HOT 100 charts). "Funkytown" had a single edit of 3:48. "Funkytown", as well as the lp "Mouth To Mouth" was written by Steve Greenberg and produced by Steve Greenberg, for Casablanca Records, at Sound 80 Studios in Minneapolis and was based on Greenberg's wish to move from Minneapolis to New York City. The lead vocalist on the hit (actually the only vocal heard, with Greenberg's production seeming to duplicate the voice to be heard as more than one) was from Cynthia Johnson who was the Miss Black USA in 1976. In the middle of the 1980's, the group Pseudo Echo would have cut a New Wave version of "Funkytown" that is still very popular as well.
