Band Name Origins:

  • My friend met Page personally earlier this year (2009), and asked this exact question. He said that has nothing to do with Fishman, but it is meant to be the sound a plane makes when it takes off. ppphhhhiiiiIIIISSSSHHHHH. Submitted by: Kevin
  • They decided to pick the name Phish because at every practice or recording session they would eat massive amounts of gold fish (crackers I assume you mean - ed). The PH is because they all have PHDs in music. Submitted by: Mark

Why the Name is Stupid:

  • Isn't that a bit self-explanitory? I mean, even if they DID spell it "fish" isn't that still a bit odd? Submitted by: Susan

Story about this misheard lyric by: Sam Roberts

I was with my friend listening to this song for the first time a long time ago. I heard the first line where this line is said and I misheard it. We couldn't stop laughing. Granted we were high at the time, but it was hilarious. We listened to that one like for over thirty minutes straight. Then we just sat with the music blasting playing video games and bobbing our heads the whole time.

Bad Grammar in Song Lyrics:

"Bouncing Around the Room"
The Lyrics:
. . . and faintly bouncing around the room
The echo of whomever spoke.
Why:
It should be "whoever spoke." The use of the verb "spoke" makes "whoever" the object of the sentence, not the subject.
Submitted by: Sam Youno
"Arpuah"
The Lyrics:
Me and Arpuah
We couldn't care fewer
Why:
I see the rhyme, but no one, and I do mean NO-ONE, ever says "We couldn't care fewer." (Obviously, it should be "...care LESS")

What A Band is Best Known For (aside from their music):

"Having a drummer in a dress"
"Fishman" was usually attired in a loose dress, especially the infamous "Henrietta" with donut-shaped designs, except for a brief period when he experimented with Italian suits.
