The Statlers BrothersBand Name Origins:
- The legendary country vocal group took their name from a box of Statler tissues in a hotel room they were staying in. Obviously none of the guys were named Statler, but two of the original members were brothers whose last name was Reid. Interesting trivia: before they were the Statler Brothers. they were called the Kingsmen and were a gospel act. Many naive audience members thought that they were the "Louie, Louie" group, which led them to learn the song due to audience demand. Submitted by: Mark Speck

Story about this misheard lyric by: Grace I can't really claim to have misheard the lyric as I have never really heard the song in my life, but my father, who never seems to sing the correct words to a song, always sang it like this so I thought that was how the song went. |

Song Parody Fragments:
"Flowers on the Wall"
Better Lyrics:
Beech-Nut gives you seven sticks while others give you eight!
Six sticks for the price of seven--that ain't great!
Counting flowers on the wall, they don't bother me at all
Playing solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of sixty-one
Smoking kangaroos and watching Captain Cigarette...
[With apologies to Beech-Nut for spoofing their 1969 commercial]
Six sticks for the price of seven--that ain't great!
Counting flowers on the wall, they don't bother me at all
Playing solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of sixty-one
Smoking kangaroos and watching Captain Cigarette...
[With apologies to Beech-Nut for spoofing their 1969 commercial]
Original Lyrics:
If I were walking in your shoes I wouldn't worry none
But you and your friends don't worry at all, I'm havin' lots of fun
Counting Flowers on the Wall, that don't bother me at all
Playing solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo...
But you and your friends don't worry at all, I'm havin' lots of fun
Counting Flowers on the Wall, that don't bother me at all
Playing solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo...

"Flowers on the Wall"
The Dated Lyrics: Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me I've nothing to do Why They're Dated: The beloved Captain went off the air in the 80's.

| "'Don't Wait on Me'"
The Dated Lyrics: 'When the lights go on at Wrigley Field
I'll be comin' home to you...' Why They're Dated: This song was written as a sort of 'I'll come back when hell freezes over'; but since then, Chicago's Wrigley Field HAS installed lights, so I say to the Statlers: 'Well, the lights are on at Wrigley Field, so where the hell are you?!?'
