Nonsensical Song Lyrics:

"Killing Me Softly With His Song"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
Telling my whole life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song
Why They're Nonsensical:
1) Are you sure that his words describe your *entire* life?! 2) Listening to the man's song kills you...softly? For the longest time I have been confused by this!

Dated Song Lyrics:

"Killing Me Softly with His Song"
The Dated Lyrics:
I felt all flushed with fever
Embarrassed by the crowd
I felt he found my letters
And read each one out loud
Why They're Dated:
Having one's letters read by someone other than the intended recipient, especially a total stranger, would have been disconcerting in 1973. Today, one must be concerned about unwanted reading of one's emails (which is much easier to do).

Comments:
The rest of the opening line is: "...whole life with his words, Killing me softly with his song ..." Flack's second #1 was able to move up the charts a lot quicker then her first. It was a #1 song in 1973 and the #1 song of the year. "Killing Me Softly With His Song" was written by Flack in response to Don McLean's "American Pie" that was the #1 song in 1972. The Fugees would have a successful remake of the song in the 1990's.
