Story about this misheard lyric by: Regina Haniger My misheard lyrics represent what I thought for years were the song actual words. I found out otherwise on watching a friend do it as a karaoke song, when I read the real lyrics from the monitor. The real lyrics make the song seem considerably less desperate in tone than I long thought it was. After all seas running dry would be a much more extreme condition than their merely running high. |
Real Places Mentioned in Songs:
"Streets Of Baltimore"
The Lyrics: I sold the farm to take my woman where she longed to be.
We left our kin and all our friends back there in Tennessee. I bought those one-way tickets she had often begged me for. And they took us to the streets of Baltimore> Why: Refers to the U.S. state of Tennessee, and to the city of Baltimore, Maryland.

| "Detroit City"
The Lyrics: Last night I went to sleep in Detroit City.
Why: From the song's overall lyrics, this is clearly a reference to Detroit, Michigan, even though its name is not "Detroit City", but merely "Detroit".
