| Helen Reddy | I Am Woman | I am woman, hear me roar In numbers too big to ignore. | A #1 song near in November 1972, this was the ultimate song for feminists in the 1970's! - Peter | |||
| Henry Manicini and Johnny Mercer | Moon River | Moon river, wider than a mile, I'm crossing you in style some day. | "Moon River" was written by Henry Manicini and Johnny Mercer for the still popular 1961romantic comedy film, "Breakfast At Tiffany's" starring, Audrey Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn sings "Moon River" during the film, but a more popular version was sung by Andy Williams. - Peter | |||
| Herb Alpert | This Guy's In Love With You | You see this guy's, this guy's in love with you. | "This Guy's In Love With You" was Herb Alpert's first #1 song in the summer of 1968 (and Alpert wouldn't visit the #1 position again until his instrumental hit, "Rise" in the fall of 1979). But it was written by Alpert, it was written by his friends, the award winning duo of Hal David and Burt Bacharach. - Peter | |||
| Herman's Hermits | No Milk Today | No milk today, my love has gone away. | 1967's "No Milk Today" was the hit B-side to "There's A Kind Of Hush". Herman's Hermits lead singer, Peter Noone is still performing today, recently appearing on "American Idol" singing "Hush". I'm not sure about his "American Idol" appearance, but I saw Peter Noone in a concert back in 2002, and he still looks and sounds the same when he was younger back in 1967. We can all hope to have it as good as Peter Noone in that regard. - Peter | |||
| Herman's Hermits | I'm Henry VIII, I Am | I'm Henry the eighth I am Henry the eighth I am I am | For their second #1 song in the states, Herman's Hermits took a song originally written in 1911 by Murray/Weston and originally popularized in dance halls and vaudeville, in England (but not the U.S.) back in the early twentieth by Harry Champion. I'm assuming everyone knows who Henry VIII was. - Peter | |||
| Herman's Hermits | There's A Kind Of Hush | There's a kind of hush all over the world tonight. | 1967's "There's A Kind Of Hush" was Herman's Hermits only two-sided hit in the states. The B-side of the popular and romantic "Hush" is "No Milk Today". Apparently the young people of 1967 flipped the 45 rpm over and found both songs to be quite to their liking. - Peter | |||
| Herman's Hermits | Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter | Mrs. Brown you've got a lovely daughter | The Manchester, England quintet, led by lead singer Peter Noone, Herman's Hermits' first #1 song in the states was this little ditty, "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" (for two weeks in late spring 1965). - Peter | |||
| The Highwaymen | Michael | Michael rowed the boat ashore, alleluya. | "Michael" was the folk group the Highwaymen's only #1 from Fall 1961. "Michael" refers to the Saint who became an angel named Michael. - Peter | |||
| Hinder | Better Than Me | I think you can do much better than me. After all the lies I made you believe. | It's hard to please a woman with the "Lips Of An Angel", so maybe Hinder should lower his standards instead of beating himself up. - Johnny Pee Lately | |||
| Hole | Retard Girl | Retard Girl, Makes us sick | - Jess | |||
| Honeycombs | Have I The Right? | Have I the right to hold you You know I've always told you That we must never ever part oh ooh ooh oh | "Have I The Right?" was an American Top five hit from the second half of 1965 from the British Invasion group, Honeycombs. Honeycombs got their name from their drummer, one of the first lady drummers in rock 'n' roll history (although not the first), Honey Lantree (born Ann Margot Lantree). "Have I The Right?" spent 15 weeks at #1 in Britain in the Fall of 1964 and Honeycombs had as huge of following in their home country as did the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Kinks. Another key to Honeycombs success and the success and unique sound of "Have I The Right?" was the lead vocals of Dennis D'Ell (b. Denis James Dalziel 14 October 1943). D'Ell died on July 6, 2005. - Peter | |||
| Hootie and the Blowfish | Time | Time, why you punish me? | - Brian Kelly | |||

| Hues Corporation | Rock The Boat | So, I'd like to know where you got the notion, Said, I'd like to know where you got the notion, to rock the boat. | "Rock The Boat" a literal one-hit wonder #1 song from the summer of 1974 for the California trio known as the Hues Corporation (members: St. Clair Lee, Ann Kelley and Fleming Williams) marks a very important dividing line for pop/rock music of the 1970's. "Rock The Boat" considered by many people to be the first Disco song of the 1970's, came at just about the right time to spark the Disco era in the same summer that President Richard M. Nixon resigned because of the Watergate scandal and as people were leaving behind the struggles and protests sparked by the Vietnam War. And pop/rock music of the 1970's is clearly seen as being divided at when "Rock The Boat" reached the #1 spot for two weeks in the summer of 1974. For before that was still lingering sounds of music from the 1960's from Motown records, Atlantic records and the British Invasion led by the Beatles and the easy listening tunes from such artists as the Carpenters, and Bread -- while after "Rock The Boat" was pop/rock music that would define the last half of the 1970's of arena rock and disco. "Rock The Boat" also would be the beginning of how dance music would evolve not only during the last half of the 1970's but also into the 1980's, 1990's and the first decade of the twenty-first century. - Peter | |||
