The Captain and Tennille Love Will Keep Us Together Love, love will keep us together Think of me whenever Neil Sedaka had a major comeback in 1975. Even the background singers sing "Sedaka Is Back" near the end of the song. - JD
Carl Douglas Kung Fu Fighting Oooo - Oooo - Oooo, Oooo - Oooo - Oooo, Oooo - Oooo - Oooo, everybody was Kung Fu Fighting.  The #1 hit from December 1974, "Kung Fu Fighting" started a huge mini-craze, that would be seen during much of 1975, of taking martial arts moves onto the Disco dance floor. And it was started by Jamiacan born Carl Douglas (born 1942) and his song "Kung Fu Fighting". Carl Douglas currently lives in Germany and runs a publishing company. - Peter
Carly Simon Nobody Does It Better Nobody does it better Makes me feel sad for the rest. "Nobody Does It Better" was the theme song from the 1977 James Bond movie, "The Spy Who Loved Me". And of course getting to sing a James Bond movie theme is a sign you've made it as a singer, and especially the very rare times it's been an American artist (along with Simon, they include Gladys Knight, Tina Turner, Garbage, Madonna and Nancy Sinatra). - Peter

Christopher Plummer Edelweiss Edelweiss, Edelweiss Every morning you greet me Small and white, clean and bright You look happy to meet me  "Edelweiss" was the final song written by the great Broadway songwriting duo of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. It was written for the Broadway musical nine months before Hammerstein was to die (August 1960). Edelweiss is a white flower that grows throughout Europe -- in the Alps (but is protected). Edelweiss is part of the sunflower family (Asteraceae) and it's scientific name is Leontopodium alpinum. Edelweiss in Greek means "lion's paw". In the movie "The Sound Of Music" there are two versions of "Edelweiss" sung, although the most popular would seem to be the solo version sung by actor Christopher Plummer. - Peter
Chubby Checker Pony Time It's pony time, get up Boogety, boogety, boogety shoo.  So, starts Checker's second #1 song (in spring 1961, and only other #1 besides "The Twist"). Again, Checker went back to introducing a dance craze for his second #1, this time, "The Pony". - Peter
Chubby Checker The Twist Come on baby let's do the twist. So starts one of the most important introduction to a dance craze songs of the rock era. "The Twist" was a #1 for Chubby Checker twice (summer 1960 and winter 1962) and is the definite template as to how all other introduction to dance craze songs in the rock era would be done. But Chubby Checker did not originate "The Twist" (although he definitely popularized it). "The Twist" was written by Hank Ballard in 1958, and was originally released as a single by Ballard and his group the Midnighters (but didn't get very far). Checker heard Ballard's version and loved it and the rest became popular history, as well as legend. - Peter
Chuck Berry Memphis Long distance information, give me Memphis Tennessee Help me find the party trying to get in touch with me.  "Memphis" is another one of Chuck Berry's mid-1950's classics. It was recorded and made a hit, again, in 1964 by Johnny Rivers. - Peter
Chuck Berry Rock And Roll Music Just let me hear some of that Rock and Roll music, Any old way you choose it, It's got a back beat, you can't lose it, Any old time you use it. Chuck Berry is another one of the early pioneers of Rock 'n' Roll music and has influenced generations of artists since. I'm not going to say much more than that, for more details go to, www.chuckberry.com, the official fan site. Chuck Berry was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 18, 1926. Just this song and another hit, "Roll Over Beethoven" show Chuck Berry's international influence on Rock and Roll, with the Beatles and several other artists recording "Beethoven" and the Beatles, the Beach Boys and several other artists recording, "Rock And Roll Music". A matter of fact one of John Lennon's fondest memories was said to have been the time he got to jam with Chuck Berry on "The Mike Douglas Show" back in the early 1970's, on "Rock And Roll Music" . - Peter
Chuck Berry  Maybellene Maybellene, why can't you be true Oh, Maybellene, why can't you be true You've started back doin' the things you used to do. "Maybellene" sounds like one of Chuck Berry's mid-1950's original classics. But on this song, hearing can be deceptive as to the time when this song was recorded and was a hit record. It actually was recorded and released in 1964 and became a Top Ten hit, marking the only time that Chuck Berry would have a hit in the middle of the British invasion and Motown nearly lock on the charts. - Peter

"Among My Souvenirs" was one of Connie Francis early top ten hits, in 1958. - Peter

Culture Club Miss Me Blind Miss me, I know you'll miss me, I know you'll miss me blind. "Miss Me Blind" was the third top five hit (actually went to #5 in the spring of 1984) from the Culture Club's sophomore lp (that proved that the Culture Club had no sophomore slump), "Colour By Numbers". Before "Miss Me Blind", "Colour By Numbers" yielded the #10 hit, "Church Of The Poisoned Mind" in November 1983, and the #1 hit "Karma Chameleon" in February 1984 (in it's three weeks at #1 "Karma Chameleon" was actually #1 twenty years to the weeks that the Beatles had the #1 song with "I Want To Hold Your Hand" -- much was made in the press about that at the time). "Colour By Numbers" yield one more hit, the #11 hit, "It's A Miracle" and then the hits seemed to stop for the group with the follow-up lp going nowhere, with "Miss Me Blind" almost seeming prophetic. After this the group broke up for a while, and Boy George actually developed a drug addiction that has remained with him until this day (although he's not nearly as bad with the drug addiction as he once was) -- those heady days of 1982 to 84 and the down year of 1985 have recently been chronicled in a Broadway musical co-written by Boy George. Culture Club would rebound, somewhat, in 1986 with the #12 hit, "Move Away". But then after this Boy George became a solo act, and also finally admitted that he was bi-sexual. Boy George has had two hits since "Move Away" of note, a remake of the American group Bread's "Everything I Own" and the 1993 top ten hit, "The Crying Game" from the international hit movie of the same name. - Peter
Culture Club Move Away Moving, moving...move away From their 1986 From Luxury To Heartache album. - Vic George
Culture Club Do You Really Want To Hurt Me Do you really want to hurt me? "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" was the first big international hit for the group the Culture Club in 1982 - 83. "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" went to #1 in Britian in the fall of 1982, but would stall at #2 for three weeks in the U.S. in the spring of 1983 behind Michael Jackson's huge hit, "Billie Jean" at #1. Culture Club was led by the controversial (and still controversial) androgynous singer, "Boy George" O'Dowd, who originally started as a member of the group Bow Wow Wow. Boy George very much made people question their views on sexual stereotypes. "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" was on the Culture Club's first album, "Kissing To Be Clever" which also yield the #2 hit in June 1983, "Time (Clock Of The Heart)" (which went to #1 in Britian) and the #9 hit, "I'll Tumble 4 Ya" in September 1983. - Peter
