In the liner notes to his untitled second album (sometimes called Seal II or Seal 1994) there's a "letter to a friend". It discusses issues and problems that have plagued history, notably hate, war, racism,etc. Seal says that complacity is fast becoming a thing of the past so if you feel you can't "go on" remember that "fast changes" are coming. One might've thought along that line in 1990 after the Cold War ended peacefully but in 1994 war had become a TV drama for armchair warriors, the violent and ugly genocidal Bosnia war raged on, the hideous Rwanda genocide was on, the rise of domestic terrorism and extremist militias, hate radio and other evils had run rampant. Seal, you make really good music but did someone spike your drink?

Comeback in Vegas - Shania Twain
Shania Twain has been MIA musically since her 2004 "Up" tour largely due to her painful divorce from husband Matt Lange who cheated with one of her close friends. Since then she had been tabloid fodder and had problems with her voice and health. She appeared as a guest judge on "American Idol" in 2010 and published a disturbing memoire "From This Moment On" while attempting a self-help show on Oprah's Network- "Why Not? With Shania Twain." But now she's making a comeback through a Vegas show for the next 2 years. She debuted recently, sitting on a mid-air suspended motorcycle in a sparking bodysuit, singing her hits from previous decades. She had 10 band members, 3 back-up singers, and 4 dancers with her... just in case her voice weakened. But she seemed back to normal and won the crowd over with "You're Still the One" accompanied onstage by a white horse!

On the hypnotic 1985 - 1986 dance hit "A Love Bizaar" (featuring Prince) Sheila E. starts off the song by counting "A! B! A-B-C-D!" instead of the more "1-2-3-4" (did somebody mention the Ramones?). This druggy tune hit #11 and it's the only really good cut on her "In Romance 1600" album.

O.D.ing a few months after his girlfriend died - Sid Viscious
The Sex Pistols' guitarist died of an overdose of heroin on February 2, 2009, not long after his American girlfriend, Nancy Spungeon was killed by a stab wound while she and Viscious were in a drugged-out stupor (on October 12, 1978). He was arrested for murder, then tried to commit suicide ten days after Spungeon's death. He survived that, but O.D. in February of the next year.

In one scene Simon was strapped to a windmill that was spinning around and suddenly stopped which left Simon with his head underwater.
The second time Simon cheated death was when his 50 ft yacht Drum lost its keel and capsized off of the southern coast of Falmouth, Cornwall.
Simon, his brother, and two other crew members wer trapped underwater for almost 20 minutes.

Detained in Norway - Snoop Dogg
Norwegian media is reporting that Snoop Dogg was briefly detained by Customs Officials for entering the country with marijuana and a large amount of cash. The pot was discoverd by a sniffer-dog and his cash amount was more than legally allowed. He was fined 52,000 Kroner ($8,600) for the violations and released. He was scheduled to perform at a musical festival in Kristiansand.

Name Change - Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg says he was "reborn" during a recent trip to Jamaica and is changing his name to Snoop Lion! He is releasing a new reggae album called "Reincarnated" this fall. One song called "No Guns Allowed" features his daughter- a drastic change from West Coast rap to more people-friendly music that kids and grandparents can listen to as Snoop has stated.

Joining "America's Got Talent" - Spice Girls
NBC says former Spice Girl Melanie Brown is joining the judges' panel of "America's Got Talent." Brown, also known as Scary Spice during her time with the '90s pop group, will take her seat alongside Howie Mandel and Howard Stern when the variety competition show returns for its 8th season this summer. Brown was previously a contestant on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."

"Viva Forever" Musical Debut - Spice Girls
Four of the Spice Girls arrived for the premiere of the new musical based on their songs recently to cheers and chants of " spice up your life" from scores of die hard fans. The premiere was at London's Picadilly Theatre. Melanie, Geri, Emma, and Mel B all arrived early but Victoria Beckham arrived later with her husband and their children. The musical uses songs like "Wannabe," "Spice Up Your Life," and the title track in a tale of four friends whose bond becomes strained when their band enters a TV talent show. The show was written by Jennifer Saunders of "Absolutely Fabulous" fame. The producer, Judy Craymer, is known for the hugely successful ABBA musical "Mamma Mia!"

Fire Band's Co-Founder - Stone Temple Pilots
Singer Scott Weiland said he learned that he'd been fired by the Stone Temple Pilots when the band released a one-sentence statement to the media recently. "I learned of my supposed 'termination' from STP this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure I can be terminated from a band I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of the biggest hits, but that's something for the lawyers to figure out." The statement by the band said: "Stone Temple Pilots have announced that they have officially terminated Scott Weiland." No other information was provided. Weiland, 45, has dealt with drug addiction, run-ins with the law, and two failed marriages. He released his memoire "Not Dead & Not for Sale" in 2011. Weiland said he was focusing on his solo tour, which kicks off in Flint, Michigan.

Headliner during Indiana State Fair stage collapse - Sugarland
On August 13, 2011, the band was minutes away from performing on the ISF grandstand stage when an 80 MPH wind gust caused the roof of the stage to collapse on passing spectators, killing 7 people and injuring 58 others. Sugarland was initially absolved of any blame. However, 44 lawsuits have been filed against them by the show's organizers, even though investigators found the fair stage itself was unsafe and that Fair officials failed to inspect it on a regular basis. Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush were so distraught by the tragedy that the band cancelled the Iowa State Fair concert scheduled the next day, then staged a benefit concert for the Indiana Fair victims the following October.
