Kansas, famous for that 70's hit "Dust In The Wind", has welcomed David Hungate, formerly with Toto, into the band. His initial reaction has been "Kansas, I have a feeling I'm not in Toto anymore!" Submitted by: S. Tim Wood

Misheard Lyrics: Pokemon
Original Lyrics: Hold the Line

Story about this misheard lyric by: Cody Finke I always thought that the Pokemon theme song was a shameless rip-off of this song, because they both sound similar - the way "Pokemon" and "Hold the Line" are sung, they have the same melody. |

The Repetitive Lyrics: I miss the rains down in Africa
Why They're Repetitive: Yeah... good question... why they’re repetitive...

The Nonsensical Lyrics: Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus
above the Serengeti Why They're Nonsensical: Umm... Kilimanjaro is a volcanic peak (actually 3 volcanoes) that rises almost 20,000 ft from a relatively flat savanna. Olympus is some 10,000 feet shorter, and is surrounded by high, rocky terrain that make it hard to distinguish it or recognize it's true height. The comparison is fair only in that you might find both listed under 'mountains' in an atlas.

The Nonsensical Lyrics: All I wanna do at evening is hold you tight, Rosanna, Rosanna
I didn't know you were looking for more than I could ever be Why They're Nonsensical: Duh! Maybe she wants more than to be held...?

The Lyrics: It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do I bless the rains down in Africa Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
The wild dogs cry out in the night As they grow restless for some solitary company I know that I must do what's right Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become Why: "Africa" was the band Toto's only #1 song (surprisingly) and was #1 in January 1983 (knocking out of that spot, Daryl Hall & John Oates' "Maneater", "Africa" would be knocked out of the top spot by another song about another continent, Men At Work's "Down Under"). In the song (and the title of the tune) chorus (I have transcribed above the first chorus) is the continent of Africa (indeed a real place). In the second verse, as I have transcribed above, is the Tanzania mountain of Kilimanjaro which is in the Serengeti savnnah which is a National Park in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro is an inactive volcano, it is the highest elevation in Africa. The Serengeti is a 60,000 square foot savannah. In the song, "Africa", Toto compares Kilimanjaro to the highest mountain in the country of Greece, Mount Olympus (another real place) which is where we get the name of the Olympic Games.
