Comments: Gary Lewis is the son of comedian Jerry Lewis and inherited many of Jerry's both good looks and boyish charm as well as some of the comedic looks, as well. But Gary wanted to be known as a musician and especially compete in the mid-1960's with the British wave started by the Beatles and still going strong in 1965. The last name though didn't hurt him, and helped him and his group, the Playboys, break through. He and his group, the Playboys, took this song, "This Diamond Ring" (their first record) straight number one for two weeks back in February 1965. This would be the start of a string of top ten songs during the years 1965 to 1966 for Gary Lewis & the Playboys, although "This Diamond Ring" remained their only visit to #1.
