Band Name Origins:

  • dc Talk was named because they started in Washington D.C. And the Talk is pretty self explanatory. When they became a bigger band the record label wanted them to think up something for the DC to mean. Thus they thought of "decent christian talk". Submitted by: RK_FAN_FOREVER
  • Any hardcore fan of dc Talk will know how they got their name. All you have to do is listen to "When DC Talks" off of their album Nu Thang. In it, Toby sayd "D is for decent, I mean what I say. But obscene, I don't play that way. C is for Christ to the I-A-N. That's right, y'all, I'm born again." Hopefully this clears it up. Submitted by: Aaliyah

If Groups Combined, Their Names Might Be:

Washington, DC
Grover Washington, Jr. combined with DC Talk
A variation of Joe's submission. In this case, the "DC" in the group's name stands for the same thing as that in "Washington, DC" (District of Columbia), so this would have worked perfectly.

Super Short Pop Songs:

"Jesus Is Just Alright (Reprise)" Length: 1:00
Fixing an error in my previous entry for this song. While THIS track is indeed a cover of the slow section of the Doobie Brothers song, the other "Jesus Is Just Alright" track on DC Talk's 'Free At Last' album is NOT a cover; it only samples the chorus.

"Jesus Is Just Alright (reprise)" Length: 1:00
Along with a redoing of the Doobie Brothers song, they also have this cover of JUST the soft part on its own. Both are featured on their 1992 album, 'Free At Last'

"Will Power" Length: 0:14
"Will Power!...Will Power!...Will Power - the power to keep away - temptation! Tempation sold seperately! Batteries not included." From their 1992 album, 'Free At Last'

Bad Ringtone Choices:

"Jesus Freak"
The Lyrics:
What will people think when they hear that I'm a Jesus freak?
What will people do when they find that it's true? (Ho, ho)
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak
There ain't no disguisin' the truth (Ho, ho, ho-oh)
Why:
Not a good idea to have this set as your ringtone if you're attending an atheist conference.
