The Lyrics:
When I get off of this mountain, you know where I want to go?

Up on Cripple Creek, she sends me
Why:
Cripple Creek, Colorado; Mississippi River; Gulf of Mexico; Lake Charles, Louisiana

The Band's, "Up on Cripple Creek"
The Lyrics:
When I get off of this mountain, you know where I want to go? Straight down the Mississippi river, to the Gulf of Mexico. To Lake Charles, Louisiana, little Bessie, girl that I once knew.
Why:
Lake Charles sits along Interstate 10 and is approximately halfway between Houston and Baton Rouge. It is home to casinos and many industrial plants. Incidentally, other lyrics in the song mention betting on horses; Delta Downs racetrack is in the town of Vinton, just about 25 miles west of Lake Charles along I-10. (The racetrack didn't exist when the song was written.) The actual Cripple Creek is in Colorado; the song completely misplaces it. (Lyrics copied from Wikipedia's entry on Lake Charles.)
