Comments:
The folk song, "Yellow Rose Of Texas" was not written by Mitch Miller, and actually dates back to the 1830's. The yellow rose in question refers not to a flower, but to a person. Mitch Miller popularized the tune though taking it to #1 back in the fall of 1955.

Real Places Mentioned in Songs:

"The Yellow Rose Of Texas"
The Lyrics:
Where the Rio Grande is flowin' and starry skies are bright She walks along the river in the quiet summer night I know that she remembers when we parted long ago I promised to return and not to leave her so
She's the sweetest little rose bud that Texas ever knew Her eyes are bright as diamonds, that sparkle like the dew You may talk about your Clementine and sing of Rosa Lee But the Yellow Rose of Texas is the only girl for me.
Why:
"The Yellow Rose Of Texas" was a #1 song for big band leader, Mitch Miller and his chorus. It is a song that was written back before the U.S. Civil War. Mentioned in the third and fourth verse as entered here by me is the Rio Grande river and of course the state of Texas!
