Band Name Origins:

  • Singer and multi-instrumentalist Viv Stanshall was a big fan of Bonzo Dog, a British cartoon character, and the whole band was into the concept of "Dada" art. They changed it from "Dada" to "Doo-Dah" because announcers at the clubs they played couldn't get it right, and eventually dropped the "Doo-Dah" altogether by their second album. This band is known for influencing Monty Python; one of the members of the Bonzos, Neil Innes, wrote songs for the Pythons and played Sir Robin's Minstrel in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Innes later went on to become famous for the Rutles, a parody of the Beatles for which he wrote all the music. Submitted by: mark

Stupid Band Names:

  • Without the Bonzo and Dah Band, they'd just be Dog Doo. He-he! Wonder what portion of listeners are amused by a band name with Dog Doo in the middle? Submitted by: Karen Smith
  • It's like they just randomly pulled words out of a hat, and added the word 'band' to it. Submitted by: hamp

Song Lyrics That Mention Brand Name Products:

"The Intro & the Outro"
The Lyrics:
Hi there, nice to be with you, Happy you could stick around. .Like to introduce "Legs" Larry Smith, drums....... What a team, Zebra Kid and Horace Batchelor on percussion.
Product Brand Name:
Horace Batchelor had a business in the '50s & '60s predicting the results of football matches. He advertised on Radio Luxembourg spelling out the name of his address KEYNSHAM. When he died he only left £150,000. This record parodies the introduction of the artists usually at Jazz Clubs. I like Lord Snooty & his pals tap dancing, the incredible Shrinking Man on Euphonium & the Wild Man of Borneo on bongos

Nothing nasty is sung. The pity is that they didn't make the song longer because there definitely are more positions.
