Real Lyrics -> Dumbest -> The Dave Clark Five

These are lyrics by The Dave Clark Five that we think are kind of dumb.

American Tour/Coast to Coast album at Amazon.com
The Dave Clark Five's, "Do You Love Me"
The Dumbest Lyrics:
I can do the blues
I can do the twist
Why They're Dumb:
This is a remake of the Contours song in which the line went 'I can mashed potato/I can do the twist,' the mashed potato being a popular dance of the early 1960's, as was the twist. Either the mashed potato never caught on in England or there was a dance there called the blues, which accounts for the changed lyric into something stupid (to us Yanks, at least)…

The Dave Clark Five's, "Over & Over"
The Dumbest Lyrics:
Everybody there was there
Why They're Dumb:
Like, duh! This song was originally done in the 1950's by Bobby Day and the lyrics were 'everybody there went stag,' which means that everyone came to the dance without a partner and was looking for one. And besides, 'stag' rhymes with 'drag.'
