I was in a band called the Deltones and we had one last gig at Battersea [south London] before it broke up. The guys who ran the place told us, 'There's no competition - you'll wipe the floor with everybody. It's just a buinch of long-haired weirdos called the Rolling Stones.' They were OK but no big hit with the audience, the way they looked we wondered why they didn't get ice-cream thrown at themselves.
Afterwards we thought, no problem, we'll never have to bother about them again.
