The Lyrics

A "what if" scenario...we see stories of horror from the "Third World"...think about how we would react.....sing this when you're downing egg nog in 6 months time!!
You better stay home, start getting prepared
A state of emergency is declared
Martial law is coming to town!!

There's soldiers in tanks, they're taking a ride
Trying to find where terrorists hide
Martial law is coming to town!! (Ho ho ho..)

You must not break the curfew
Or loot your local store
They've got their water cannons primed
They're not foolin' anymore!

Oh! You better walk tall and carry ID
Or you could end up real D-E-A-D
Martial law is coming to town!

They've had it down in Baghdad
And on The Gaza Strip
Now it's happening in your back yard
Freakin' hell, ain't that a trip!

There's CCTV, it's state of the art
Lotsa land mines in front of K-Mart
Martial law is coming to town!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

I just had a visual of John Ashcroft in a Santa suit! Very funny piece, Kristof, too close to reality to be LOL, though. VERY well done! 555 unauthorized searches of your personal data have just been made!

Nice job. Loved Rod's Ashcroft comment. You mean we're not under Martial law now? (Dubya spells it "Marshall" by the way)

You appropriately poke fun at laws that punish curfew violators, but you also target laws that punish people who loot stores. Is there something wrong with such laws?

Excellent. My only compliant, and it's not really a complaint, is that your 'Gaza Strip/trip' rhyme would be funnier if you somehow made the second line end in 'trip' and the fourth line end in 'Gaza Strip'. 'Gaza Strip' is the stronger part of the rhyme, and you always want the stronger part to come second. At least that's how it's been in my experience here. More fodder to spread around...

Very good, but, Rod, Ashcroft could learn a few things from Santa. After all, who knows better when someone's sleeping, when they're awake, how to get into somebody's house, etc.

Thanks all for your votes. 2nz, I take your point...I tried to get it to work the other way round, but it didn't "stick"...oh well, I won't lose any sleep over it. Thanks anyway
