Since I have trouble relating to street drugs, (never used them) and I've just heard this song twice in the last few months (and not at all beforehand) I wonder. Oh, I know - different *kind* of dope. Yeah, that stuff. I know about that kind of *dope* and why people take it.
The drugs are said to make us feel normal,
No love, no sense, a diagnosis formal,
The cops own fear, a straight-jacket symbol,
The future is gone, the present is dismal.

We're all objects, in the dope show,
We're all objects, in the dope show.

There's a lot of pretty shitty ones,
They all want to see you die,
And all the nurses now have guns,
They crush your soul and destroy your mind.

We're all plagues, in the dope show,
We're all plagues, in the dope show.

While you have money, you are prized,
And when you don't, you're lobotomized.

The drugs, supposedly, come from all over,
"You cause trouble,
We'd really like to kill you." (1)
Perfect men and women make good idols, (2)
If we hate ourselves today,
Will you let us live tomorrow?

There's a lot of pretty evil ones,
They all want to see you fry, (3)
And all the nurses now have guns,
They crush your soul and destroy your mind.

They hurt you daily, 'cause they despize,
Call you insane, and then they euthanize.

There's a lot of pretty shitty ones,
They all want to see you die,
And all the nurses now have guns,
They crush your soul and destroy your mind.

We're all stars now in the dope show
We're all stars now in the dope show
1) History looks more and more likely to repeat itself, even if this isn't Germany. All hail the *new* Nazi Doctors! 2) A common belief - publicly denied, yet privately cherished - is that 'mental illness' is really 'moral weakness', and the best 'cure' is unrelenting punishment until the person either 'gives it up' or 'burns in hell where he/she belongs'. (Note: this attitude is as likely to be found among the unchurched as it is among the most dire fundamentalists - and with the precise same 'internal language'.) 3) Electro-Convulsive Therapy, or 'subclinical electrocution'. A most efficient means of punishing those who have knowingly and willfully chosen to not be fully conformed to the socially mandated state of self-enacted perfection.
