The GOP is already trying to rework its image for the 2016 election through compromise on social issues and promoting Marco Rubio as head of the pack of candidates to win Latino support. But equally, the GOP seeks an early smear campaign on Hillary Clinton by claiming that she's old and tired, worn-out and of the old generation. Recent comments compare her to one of the "Golden Girls!" The GOP is ready to embrace the "Facebook Generation" with a combined strategy of technology, compromise, and concentrated attacks on Clinton and Biden (perceived as a lesser threat).

Unfortunately, being on the right side of issues (not that either party ever has been) is not the best political strategy. As you point out, Rob, image seems to be more important than substance.
