The Lyrics

We were on a whaling ship
Chasing after Moby Dick
On the vastness of the highest seven seas
When we spotted in the tide
Just off the starboard side
The infamous white whale had struck again

We followed the trail of complete desolation
At the wreckage there we found a new inspiration
So we came upon Moby Dick
And hopped in our whaling boats
We rowed out in the smoke
For a while we kept afloat
We won't harpoon again!

We readied our harpoons
On that stormy afternoon
When the daring captain sent us out to sea
All were counting on their luck
Until the massive whale had struck
And it seemed we weren't getting out of this alive

Pretty soon we had low ammunition
Whaling boat was in terrible condition
Captain ordered we take the fight
To the whale and claim our prize
So we let our harpoons fly
And we landed one in the eye
We won't harpoon again!

We lost some crew that day
As we looked on with dismay
At the wreckage of the other whaling boats
But we had to prove ourselves
So we faced the stormy swells
Tried to finish off the battered bloodied whale

We followed the trail of complete desolation
At the wreckage there we found a new inspiration
But when we came upon Moby Dick
He fled North through the smoke
So we headed back to boat
Now the crew says, and I quote:
We won't harpoon again!

The subject matter was funny, but you had a few minor pacing issues and one greivous pacing error. "At the wreckage there, was found new inspiration" was three syllables off. Rephrase to "At the wreck was found new inspiration" and you're on the pace. With a long lyrical line, it helps to count out the number of syllables in both the original line and your parody line so that they match .... Other than that, good stuff

And OBTW, I am the only other person I know of to do a Moby Dick-themed parody. It was a take off on "Call me, Maybe" entitled "Call me, Moby." Look for it in my Callmelennie top 140 author index -- January 25, 2013
