Original Song Title:

"Mull Of Kintyre"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Paul Mc Cartney

Parody Song Title:

"Mulligan's Tires"

Parody Written by:

Malcolm Higgins

The Lyrics

sung by a little old irishman in county clare Ireland :)
mulligan's tires,
old michelins are piled high to see,
the new tires, buy three get one free,
oh mulligan's tires..

cars often travel, on roads filled with glass,
and you get punctures, and it frosts your ass,
but we can patch them to last for a while,
when you bring your old rubbers to mulligan's tires..

mulligan's tires,
old michelins are piled high to see,
the new tires, buy three get one free,
oh mulligan's tires..

treadwear's a pattern, and temperature range
all silly numbers, this safety is strange
trust in our products, the steel belts are wires
and they're radial belted,
these mulligan's tires

mulligan's tires,
old michelins are piled high to see,
get some new tires, buy three get one free,
oh mulligan's tires..

grips in the summer, and holds in the rain
when you go racing, the rubber leaves stains
recycle cleanly, or burn them in fires every time you need new ones
from mulligan's tires..

Love this parody. Sing it every time Mull plays. Really needs a YouTube clip.

An Australian radio announcer, Ian Macrae, recorded a parody version "Mulligan's Tyres" contemporaneously as the original. I remember the lyrics included "the tread's on the inside", but I can't remember any more. I think Macrae was working for 2SM at the time.

Yes I remember the parody on 2SM. My father thought it was very funny as did I. I clearly remember the line “with tread on the inside” but unfortunately that is all I remember. It is a pity there is not a YouTube clip of it. I was just listening to the Paul McCartney version today and the Mulligans Tyres version always pops into my head, so I decided to do an internet search for the parody.

I just found this and loved it. I am in my eighties now and as young boy we used to hear or invent parodies of just about any pop song. Harder to do with the music written these days but may the art of parody live on forever. .Does anybody remember "I'm wild again, beguiled again, because my wife's having a child again" ( with apologies to Cole Porter).Or "Bennie's From Heaven" ?'
