Parody Song Title:

"Messed Up Highway"

Parody Written by:

Royce Miller

Weaving through the mazes of those bright orange cones
They've been here forever now, it seems
They're widening the highway, at least that's what they say
I see those bulldozers in my dreams

Messed up highway, let me go another way
Messed up highway, you seen better days
The flagmen and the noise, people with big toys
Messed up highway, see them chip away, chip away on you

Turning back the pages to the times I love best
The time when I could travel down this road
Doesn't matter if you're going north or east or west
Or south--by construction you'll be slowed

Messed up highway, let me go another way
Messed up highway, you seen better days
The flagmen and the noise, people with big toys
Messed up highway, see them chip away, chip away on you

Searching through the detour signs I hope I won't get lost
Hope I end up somewhere close to home
I used to enjoy travelling, I loved to just get free
But now I'm almost hesitant to roam

Messed up highway, see them chip away on you
Messed up highway, you seen better days
The beep beep beeping sound, it's hard to get around
Messed up highway, see them chip away, chip away on you

Royce - somehow had been missing your stuff. Liked the comment on your bio page. That IS what it really should be about but we do all enjoy validation/praise/recognition & the like from time to time. I'm ok with LIKING it but when I CRAVE it I need to back away and hit the "Reset" button. That said I have to admit it I found it helpful to get some strokes from folks on this site when I hopped on a month or so ago. I was a bit down about the job ending 12/31 and the first group of pre-announced lay-offs had just taken place a few days earlier. It's nice to get decent notice of impending pink-slippage but it also plays with your head a little, too. OH, can't believe that this song had all those prior votes but NO, as in "ZERO" as in "0" comments until now. Well, I filled enough space here to make up for a couple. OH, YOUR PARODY...back to that...A really nice job here, very clever and well-paced and the line endings flow smoothly with the original music. I like Lightfoot quite a bit and know a lot of his stuff.

Paul-Thanks for taking the time to comment, and I hope that this year will turn out good for you in spite of the pink slip thing. Gordon Lightfoot is special to me, for many reasons. Good luck with everything.
