The Lyrics

I may as well climb on the bandwag..., er, 'Pope-Mobile' too, before it completely leaves the station!
YouTube: Mr. Ed original theme song

The Pope is the Pope, you’d hope, you’d hope
Until, like Ms. Palin, the Pope can’t cope
A slipp’ry slope those ‘priestly gropes’
for the famous Pastor Fled!

To get the straight dope I asked ex-Pope
He gave me the answer, “Don’t drop the soap!”
“You altar boys risk rising robes—
*Run* from Pastor Pred’!”

Papal-razzi yakked a streak and begged the Pope to stay
But Pastor Fled’s poor neck’s too sore
from ‘looking the other way’!

A Pope is a Pope, unless eloped
And then he’s the Fodder of All Our Tropes
The Vat-i-can's now on the ropes?!

Well listen to this:

“I - was - Pastor, Head.”

this was ok

The difference is that the Pope is trying to flee responsibility for all of his tropes who groped little boys, while I was fleeing from all those jerks trying to grope me. ... ummm, "tropes" is the same as "troops", right?   (asks Todd to look in dictionary) .... oh... it's some kind of word thingy, like a cynicdouche. Well, that still describes the Pope.

Verse number 2 was the best, from fart to stinkish. I know about people getting sore necks, but no one ever looks the other way when I'm around, they get sore from gawking ta-te-ta. As for the Pope, if only he'd listened to some smart advice 2 and a half years ago:

Still trying to figure out how to fill in these vote circles with a #2 pencil...

Y'know, I can't help wondering if we've got enough to make a 'Pope Quits' album now... it'd be something for him to listen to, now he's got all that time on his hands ;^)

...And this one should definitely be on it! Some brilliant wordplay in here, and very, very funny. (liked the 'Papal-razzi' in particular.) I think even the Pope himself might give this a 555 - I'm certainly going to :^)

Tradition-bustin', responsibility-duckin' thanks out to:

*Onslaught* — Thanks, and good one!

*OMR* — Ha! What happened to that 'Vati-can-do attitude of yours?
*JL* — Thanks for keepin' it real...neutral!

*Da' Gover-mater* — Thanks for taking time out from your busy-less schedule! You remind me of my -Ex, 'cause all my ex's live in Lexis! And your Illuminated-Ma'am-uscript.shtml was truly illuminating, erudite and exhaustive--and that's just the footnotes and comments! But, seriously, getting back to your breasts...TA-TA!

*AFW* — Appreciate it--I was running perilously low on rhymes there at the end!

*WC* — Great idea and thank you, Wendy! I'm sure the Pope could use a nice upbeat novelty song or two 'bout now.

It could be entitled "Vatican Drag," or - "Flag"," Lag", -- "Vatican Sag"? .... Ah! "Vatican Tag (You're It!)" ;)
(all take-offs on a Tom Lehrer parody, "Vatican Rag".)

@ TJC: Proving SP's point(s, heh!) about people gawking... x-D
(and in retrospect, "Synod Douche" was a much better fit -- perfect, actually -- than "cynicdouche" as a play on "synecdoche", a subset of the Venn set of "all tropes". Hindsight (and no Palin jokes on that! xD)
TJC - February 17, 2013 - Report this comment
TJC@TT -- Well, in this case, a 'synecdoche' where a 'part' *stands* for a 'whole' (the w's silent) is a grande, nay, a venn'ti goblet of uber aptness!
