Song Parodies -> Pedagogy Fun Play
| Original Song Title: | "Pleasant Valley Sunday" |
| Original Performer: | Monkees |
| Parody Song Title: | "Pedagogy Fun Play" |
| Parody Written by: | John A. Barry |
Those yokel rock groups keep the beat,
But they don't teach us with their songs.
We've got to reach beyond their screech
And do rewrites to right their wrongs.
Another pedagogy fun play:
Charming turns-of-phrasing fare.
Wrote a new turn on "Here Comes the Sun";
There's lots of lessons there.
Old Dobie Gray did "drift away";
Of that I wrote a brand new tune
In which I mean to set a scene
That's less downbeat and suffused with doom.
Another pedagogy fun play
Of some pat, simplistic band.
Rockers disdain to us life lessons give;
Their lyrics we can't understand
Creaky Stones that roll--
Their songs used to have soul
And had smart things to teach to me.
But they've seen their best day;
Their new stuff I won't play--
In fact, naught past '73.
Another pedagogy fun play:
Charming turns-of-phrasing fare.
Another pedagogy fun play
That's didactic, shrill, and bland.
Another parodistic pun-play. . . .
But they don't teach us with their songs.
We've got to reach beyond their screech
And do rewrites to right their wrongs.

Another Monkees lyric not suh-uh-ung/ In the first place by that band / But to Barry's version I'd give tongue / Were that option in my hand ... :-)
Stan...wow, now that's commitment! :)
John: is the Monkees your next direction? Go with it!

Great job John. I love parodies about writing parodies. And yes, some of the lyrics posted here are way better than the OS.
Great parody on music pre ' 73 . It is just so true! Same way with the cars!!! Is there a conspiracy perhaps?
