The Lyrics

I first heard this song from the brilliant Walk Off the Earth video where they are passing and throwing ukuleles. Then i found out about the original artist Lorde. Then I found out Al Yankovic just released his version. Here's mine anyway about the great poker champ Doyle Brunson
I’ve never seen a diamond or a flush
I cut the cards like Harpo Marx in the movies
And I can barely find the deuce
Or the ace of spades, no poker envy

But every game is like ante, chips in
Bluffin’ in the cardroom
Two pair, king high, full house or straight boom
Cards don’t lie, I’m spending presidents I can’t spare
And everybody’s like
Hearts and clubs and diamonds on the velvet
See’ em, raise ‘em, throwin’ in your gold chain
I’m so lame..I’m so caught up in this losing game

But according to Doyle (Doyle)
I play this game for blood
The stakes are high for most of us
Three of a kind gives one a buzz

Gotta have his rule book (rule book)
You can call him Brunson
Cause baby he rules, he rules, he rules
For he is the poker champ

My friends and I—we read his book
We have those dollars on our brain to Las Vegas
And everyone who sees us, knows that we’re ripe for this
We’re gonna win some money

But every game is like ante, chips in
Bluffin’ in the cardroom
Two pair, king high, full house or straight boom
Cards don’t lie, we’re spending presidents we can’t spare
And everybody’s like
Hearts and clubs and diamonds on the velvet
See’ em, raise ‘em, throwin’ in your gold chain
We’re so lame..We’re so caught up in this losing game

But according to Doyle (Doyle)
We play this game for blood
The stakes are high for most of us
Three of a kind gives one a buzz

Gotta have his rule book (rule book)
You can cal him Brunson
Cause baby he rules, he rules, he rules
For he is the poker champ

Ooh ooh oh
I’m dumber than I ever dreamed
I never should have dumped the queen
Ow ow ow
Now my wallet’s gotten bare
Now I can’t afford the greyhound fare

But according to Doyle (Doyle)
We play this game for blood
The stakes are high for most of us
Three of a kind gives one a buzz

Gotta have his rule book (rule book)
You can cal him Brunson
Cause baby he rules, he rules, he rules
For he is the poker champ

Well done - I just saw the Weird Al one yesterday, so a good followup

Long time, Rick. Five of a kind. Maybe you can get Johnny D. back in the fold?

A song about someone I've never heard of to a tune I've never heard (by someone I've barely heard of).. but it's great to see you back, Rick :-)

Phil, you are catching up to me i had to do something. Google Walk off the earth royal for one of the cleverest videos I've ever seen. Especially for a uke player

Great to see you back again Rick! I may actually have to watch the WSofP shortly as I know someone who made it into one of the televised matches. Hey, I also know some Brunsons, but I don't think they are related. But I digress.... I come from a long line of poker players and this parody is a hit. No bluff.

Great job Rick. I was only aware of the original by Lorde, but have to say that i immensely enjoyed the Walk off the Earth version (and the fine clip) somewhat more. Your hand hold 3 x 5 and at least a couple of Aces :) As I didn't read your lead in closely enough (shame on me), I started thinking that the "Doyle" was some sort of reference to Doyle Lonegan, Robert Shaw's poker playing character in The Sting.

Well done. I watched the video and enjoyed that too.

Meant to comment on this earlier but I was too busy watching EVERY SINGLE WOTE video....seriously, thanks for pimping that; it's tremendous and my kids and I had a great time watching a bunch of their stuff. That said, it's always awesome to see you make an appearance. I know nothing about poker, though, so the parody didn't do that much for me. Now write one about Game of Thrones or fantasy sports and I'll be all in.
