The Lyrics

This one is dedicated to my dad who in 1971 tried to bring home a Javelin-AMX from the dealer. An AMC man all his life, dad was ecstatic about the new Javelin-AMX (basically the Javelin SST with performance upgrades). My dad brought it home and my mom freaked out and told him he had a family now- no sports cars!!! My dad, dejected, went back to the dealer and brought home an ugly pea-green looking 1971 Ambassador. I hated that car even though it had a 396 V-8. After dad died of leukemia in 1975, it was mom that traded the Ambassador in for a white 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 403 Olds engine in it IIRC (California model)!!! It had a 403!!! Oh, the irony!!! Dad was probably rolling over in his grave as the family had always bought AMC before this. AMC died in 1987...
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
I’m in love with an AMX

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
I’m in love with an AMX

AMX! Javelin AMX! Javelin
AMX! Javelin AMX! GO!GO!

When it comes to cars I drive AMC
I think that this time I’ll get the newest SST
You know that a 401 V-8 drives me insane
After three Ramblers, I feel the need

I’ll bring it home, bring it home, home
Muscle car with a 401, muscle car with a 401

[Chorus]
I’m just a Racing Fool, oh honey it’s so cool
Cuz I’m in love with an AMX, honey
I’m just a Racing Fool, oh honey it’s so cool
Cuz I’m in love with an AMX, honey

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
I’m in love with an AMX

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
I’m in love with an AMX

AMX! Javelin AMX! Javelin
AMX! Javelin AMX! GO!GO!

I couldn’t love this car so completely
Sell me the Go Package and Rally Pac today
Gotta have dual exhaust, front spoiler, reverse-cowl
induction hood, E60x15RWL tires, Tick-Tac gauge

I’ll bring it home, bring it home, home
Muscle car with a 401, muscle car with a 401

I’m just a Racing Fool, oh honey it’s so cool
Cuz I’m in love with an AMX, honey
I’m just a Racing Fool, oh honey it’s so cool
Cuz I’m in love with an AMX, honey

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
I’m in love with an AMX

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
I’m in love with an AMX

[Bridge]
In the most car-buying sense,
I am beyond common sense
Sedan owner, working-stiff wretch, I’ve lost my mind
But in the motoring sense
The ‘71 Javelin-AMX is intense
AMX leaves me defenseless,
Oh crap, maybe a 396 Ambassador this time… (sigh)…

I wanna buy you,
But my wife’s pulling me away from you
I have a family now, that’s true
But AMX is the muscle car I cling to
I cling to

I’m just a Racing Fool, oh honey it’s so cool
Cuz I’m in love with an AMX, honey
I’m just a Racing Fool, oh honey it’s so cool
Cuz I’m in love with an AMX, honey

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
I’m in love with an AMX

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
I’m in love with an AMX

AMX! Javelin AMX! Javelin
AMX! Javelin AMX! GO!GO!

I think AMC was succeeded by GMC later on in the 80's, but I am not sure. I always loved that Delorean car, maybe you could someday write a song about it? ;-) But great song about AMC! 5's!

The parody was one of your better ones to date... 4 for pacing, 5 for how funny (actually more like educational), 4 overall. I have never seen a Javelin AMX, but a friend of my dad's had a small black AMC hatchback with "AMX" in big letters on the sides when I was a little girl. I also owned an AMC Concord station wagon for 6 months, bought it for $50 at the police impound auction like I always do, it was a decent car by ex-abandoned standards until it sucked a valve and I donated it.

I owned a 1967 Rambler American. Bought it during the 1979 oil embargo because it had a 6 cylinder engine. I think that thing got worse gas mileage than my 1986 Chrysler V-8. Once saw an ex-Post Office Rambler Ambassador on a street in KCK. Right hand steering. Driven by two little Black ladies. Minnesota license plates "RAM-JAM". For some weird reason, I've always wanted a car with right hand steering. The only ones ever available around here were ex-postal Jeeps. And those had a warning decal on the dashboard about how the vehicle would tip over if you turned a corner with it.

Oops, my bad on the Ambassador engine- it was a 390 V-8... don't know how I got 396!!! AMC had engines: 250, 287, 290, 304, 327, 343, 360, 390, and 401. My dad if he were alive would have hit me for making that mistake!!! Before he had the Ambassador he also went through a bunch of Ramblers, his last being a 1967. Even with the Gremlin and Pacer, I miss AMC. Who can forget the Ramblers, SCRambler, Ambassador, Matador, Marlin, Javelin SST and AMX, AMX, and the concept car AMX/3???
