Shoot CML, I think the title should have been "The Old Gway Hare!" Goodness gwacious! Missed one fwom because my Spellchecker changed it back!
Reminds me when I first watched that short on cable when I was a kid lol. AD 2000 was just around the corner, so having a futuristic rifle like elderly Elmer would be a long shot unless if it's a toy. :V
This clever idea was lots of fun. Note however that hares and rabbits are not the same species. Bugs is called a "bunny" by his Disney creators, even though his cartoon physique, long ears etc. make him look more like a hare. Elmer likely wouldn't have known the difference, but I am glad to learn that he became less savagely trigger-happy in his older days.
Oops! Should have written "cartoonist-creators". Seems I was guilty myself of confusing different species.
As mentioned before by me, the animators kept slipping up on Elmer's break action shotgun. Sometimes it was a single barrel, other times a double barrel! Thanks for all additional comments!

DGC(d), I'm surprised you didn't throw the mythical Jackalope in there (German Wolpertinger equivalent)! And for trivia, there were no antelope playing on the range in America. The pronghorn is called the "American Antelope" although it is not one!
