The Lyrics

The legendary Amber Room (considered the 8th Wonder of the World), was constructed from 1701-1711 in Prussia and was given as a gift to Tsar Peter the Great by Prussian King Friedrich Wilhlem I in 1716. It eventually covered 55 sq meters and held 6 tons of amber! With the German invasion in 1941 it was believed falsely that the brittle amber could not be moved and so was disguised to mask the treausre. The Nazis did not fall for that and dismantled the AR in a mere 36 hours and crated it in 27 crates destined for Koenigsberg, in E. Prussia in the Castle. On January 21, 1945 Hitler ordered the Koenigsberg treasure moved and from there the controversy begins as the civil director Erich Koch fled the city, leaving General Otto Lasch to attend to the order. Eyewitness accounts claim to have seen many crates at the railway station and further claims state that the AR was stored on the Wilhelm Gustloff that sailed from Gotenhafen on Jan 30, 1945 only to be sunk in the greatest maritime disaster in history. Postwar, the KGB and E. German Stasi searched for the AR in vain and also private searchers. All official documents were either burned or are missing. It was then assumed that either the RAF bombing of Koenigsberg or Russian artillery had destroyed the AR in 1945. Independent researchers have written books on the burning of the castle and destruction of the treasure, covered-up by Stalin to blame the Nazis. A new Amber Room was made from 1979-2003 in Russia with German donations and help. It resides in the Catherine Palace once again, but no one knows how precise the reworking is. Many people still believe the original is buried somewhere, hidden, and that it would have been turned over to the SS at some point after Jan 21st 1945 anyway. The SS took most of the looted art from all countries and either burned it or buried it. Germany itself is one giant treasure chest of secret bunkers and mines still not ever searched. Berlin alone has only had 30% of its bunkers fully searched. The Koenigsberg Castle site had been demolished and paved over, so the AR may be there as well- out of reach.
Lost is the Amber Room
for all time

Gift to Peter the Great removed
Bright jewels’ holdin’
From palace was stolen

Nazis had to have it
Koenigsberg moved round
Bombings and Red Army
Nobody knows where it can be found

[It remains hidden deep underground]

Lost is the Amber Room
8th wonder of time
Was crime

Searched for you
Reds were fooled
Stasi too
All groups were led astray
The files weren’t there
Just hearsay stories
(Bad) testimonies

[Liars and phonies]

Let it be
Lost is the Amber Room
8th wonder of time
(Reconstructed paid by German company)
