They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I signed on the line,
I made my payments, but I didn’t know they were borrowing more all the time.
They used to tell me I had equity now, a real safe harbor at last.
Why should I be living in my car, tryin’ to pay for gas?
Once I built an airline, and I made it fly,
My flights departed on time.
Once I built an airline, now it’s outta the sky,
Buddy, got a buck forty-nine?
Once I had investments, a 401-K,
I watched the indexes climb.
Once I had retirement, but not today,
Buddy, got a buck forty-nine?
Once in chocolate chips, gee we looked hot
Showin’ ‘em all that Yankee shock and awe
Half a world away, we gave our best shot
Until it was time to withdraw.
Say, don’t you remember, they called me Bill, it was Bill all the time.
Remember, we were buddies, now are we still?
Buddy, got a buck forty-nine?
