Original Song Title:

"This Old Man"

Original Performer:

Rick Duncan

Parody Song Title:

"This Old Band"

Parody Written by:

Trad/Kids

The Lyrics

This old band, they play on
They play though they're almost gone
With a Mick trip, giant lip
Keith looks like all bones
This old band is "Rolling Stones"

This old band, played "The Who"
Though there now are only two
With windmill as a thrill
Pete is almost deaf
This old band looks worse than "Hef"

This old band, CSN
Used to sound good way back when
With a big three harmony
Liver's almost done
This old band should get back Young

This old band, Fleetwood Mac
Sure did go through lots of crack
With a sniff snort, back to court
Habits made them poor
This old band still needs to tour

This old band, tickets sold
Eagles touring, Hell gets cold
With a spotlight, no more fight
Singin' all the hits
This band gave up hissy fits

This old band, old slow hand
19 groups he loves to jam
With a hot chick, play a lick
Really paid his dues
Eric Clapton does the blues

This old band, Kokomo
Two dead Wilsons, one to go
While a Beach Boys song annoys
They won't take a hike
All that's left is Al and Mike

This old band, Jethro Tull
See them live, they're never dull
With a root-toot, breathy flute
Anderson on fire
This old band just won't retire

This old band, Motley Crue
Showing off ten new tattoos
With a big sound, in the round
Not one decent song
Drummer has a giant dong

This old band, Yes, I hear
Still plays on year after year
And there's no doubt, Roundabout
Will be on the bill
This old band is playing still

Rick Duncan is the original performer? I thought he was a parody writer on this site.

Well Trad/Kids, I love what you've done with this Rick Duncan classic. I remember seeing him do this number at CBGBs in the spring of '79, ably supported by Television. Elvis Costello came on for a duet...aaahh, memories...:-) 555

The one exception I note here is that you don't mention U2. Their first single was in 1979, a full 26 year ago, yet their last album went to number 1 everywhere and looks set to become their second best selling album ever. I guess sometimes an old dog can learn a new trick.

Well we all make boo-boos. Besides, who was the original performer? It could have been one of my relatives. I'l be re-submitting this tomorrow with a little more care.

Hey, Rick, remember when you sang at Woodstock? Oh, that's right, you don't. We told you not to take the brown acid! Anyway... Some old band, did you miss? Bite your tongue, you forgot KISS! So go wake 'em up, make 'em up, get 'em to play live. Parody still gets a five.

You probably had the info in the "original artist" field and the "parody author" field reversed; i.o.w. it should have been the other way around. But the parody was excellent; I enjoyed it.
