This was written after many years of working in a shopping center where the Christmas carols were started the day after Halloween and DID NOT STOP! until December 26th; often, by the start of December I was ready to have anybody who so much as THOUGHT a Christmas carol boiled in eggnog.
1] Take down the holly;
Turn off the Chipmunks, or I'll... smash the radio!
Socks off the chimney,
Comb out the tinsel from that blasted evergreen bough...
R} We don't need an early Christmas--
Not in mid- September;
Everything goes rancid
Way before December!
We don't need an early Christmas,
Why should we begin it?!?
It isn't even winter yet--
Now just a cottonpickin' minute...!!!
2] This is an outrage:
Why, there's a Jack'o'Lantern in a holly wreath!
Reindeer and elves on
The "back-to-school" displays-- oh, where's our common sense now?!?
R} We don't need an early Christmas
Spoiling all our pleasure--
Makes the Saviour's birthday
Trash instead of treasure;
We don't need to rush the Yuletide,
A dozen days is plenty...
So put away the Christmas now!!!
