| Parody Song Title: | "If You're Rapping And You Know It" |
| Parody Written by: | Scathe |
I really don't like rap music.If you don't either, enjoy. :-)
If you're rapping and you know it,
Snort a line.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Smoke a vine.
If the public knows you're fried,
And Betty Ford's a mark of pride.
Just get stoned out of your hide
With some drugs.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Curse and swear.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Curse and swear.
If you're nowhere near above it,
And you know the fans will love it.
Tell the censors to go shove it,
Curse and swear.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Talk to sing.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Talk to sing.
If you're singing doesn't cut it,
And you really want strut it.
If you don't know how to put it,
Talk to sing.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Dance real bad.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Dance real bad.
If silly steps seem cool,
Even though you look the fool.
Then listen to this simple truth:
Rapping sucks.
Snort a line.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Smoke a vine.
If the public knows you're fried,
And Betty Ford's a mark of pride.
Just get stoned out of your hide
With some drugs.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Curse and swear.
If you're rapping and you know it,
Curse and swear.
If you're nowhere near above it,
And you know the fans will love it.

ROFLOL! This was great - have some 5's. After all, the only difference between rap and crap is the letter C. ;-)
Heh heh, great ending.
I'm only in it for the complex compound rhyming and unique chauvinistic social commentary. Nice parody, Scizzathe.
Hehehe. Very witty, I love it.
Thanks everyone. My pool of ideas has been dry since the start of January, but it's filling up now.
(SOTM)
Can't stand no rap
It ain't my thing
Do they do rap
'Cause they can't sing?
Love this. I've done a few parodies on rap myself. This is really good.

The last line of verse 1 and 4 doesnÂ't rhyme with the lines I think they should rhyme with, but maybe thatÂ's just me, and being the first and last itÂ's still some sort of consistency. END MODE SOTM CENTS.
(SOTM) Pacing is a little off, but the point is well made.
(SOTM) That's a rap. Still swingin', Scathe.
Nobody can touch this! 555
(SOTM) We agree on something..."Rapping sucks. " 5's
A joy to revisit. Still a great last line.
agreement here.
(SOTM) Rhymings off in a couple of places, but it's still a funny read. Here's 555 Cents
(SOTM) Yo, mofo, I'm gonna pop a cap in your ass! :-) 555
I see you've received a couple of complaints about your non-rhymes, but I'm betting you put them in there on purpose. They were what I liked most. Funny stuff.
:-) SOTM (and out of witty comments)
(SOTM) Heh heh heh.
I have this fear that 50 years from now, rap will have the respect of mainstream music lovers like jazz does today, and something worse will take its place. Well done, Scathe.
(sotm) I can't stand rap. at all. I hope it dies out...
(SOTM) If it's funny and I know it, giving 5's!
(SOTM) Dude I love this song - 555!!!!
SOTM--My favorite verse was the "Tell the censors to go shove it" one...LOL! Very nice work here, Scathe!
SOTM - well! on behalf of me homeys in the hood, dude...er, actually, no I agree - (except sometimes)
SOTM--Well done. Worked for me
SOTM - I happen too like a lot of rap. Some of it is terrible... the worst probably never makes it into the public eye... same goes for some of the best. I don't really want to personally attack any rappers right now just in case any of them ever come across me saying i don't like them and then come to find me. I know its not likely, but better safe than sorry. Instead of taking about acual rappers i'd rather explain why I have so much respect for rap. First of all, even though most of them don't take advantage of it, the quick delivery and lack of instrumental interludes give much more opportunity to say something important than there is time for in other genres. The rapid delivery in itself is pretty hard. You ever try it? It's pretty hard not to slur. And it's not just talking - you're supposed to have more rhythm in your voice then you do in a regular conversation and it's hard to do correctly. Rapping is like singing because most people can do each of them so it fits the definition of the word but to do either well takes lots of natural talent and/or practice. There is also the issue of actually writing it. The general consensus here seems to be that American Pie is the ultimate epic song to parody. I've done it, and it is long. But a lot of rap songs are longer, with much more complicated rhyming. A lot of the time, there will be several lines with each of the last three syllables rhyming with each other. Look carefully at the lyrics to most Eminem songs from this decade - or a lot of Jay-Z's stuff - Fabolous isn't as well know but there is some really good rhyming in his songs too. If you can't do what they do, you shouldn't be so quick to call them untalented.
Very fun to read through, and genuinely a good parody. I happen to disagree (partially) with your point, but that's my personal view more than a valid critique.
I think rap should be in a different category than other music, because rap has a different focus than almost all other music. In most music, the focus is on the beat, the melody, the harmony and the way different sounds come together to form a whole of the song. THe lyrics are just secondary stuff, if they're even there. In rap, the focus is almost completely on the spoken word, the english or whatever language phrases and statements. The harmonic and melodic aspect has been stripped away to nothing more than a steady down beat. For this reason, I think rap should be considered a separate entity.
