The Lyrics

People say I've lost my freakin' sense of proportion
People say I'm crazy for taking on "War and Peace"
People call it literary abortion
Maybe it's true I'm just a feeb, but

If I ever lose my place in you
I'll keep starting over till I'm through

Some believe that I should start with something funny
They would say "Hey, it's more your speed, stick with Dr. Seuss"
They would say an easier read would be "Lit For Dummies"
It all seems like mental self-abuse

If I ever lose my place in you
Could be half a year before I'm through
Hey hey

I could get lost inside your text
Of war's sad waste
But when I close you to reflect
I mark my place

Never saw no Barbara Cartland romance
That didn't feature a soldier and a nurse
Never saw no book about the Wolf Man
That didn't start with a gypsy curse, but

Let me read you first

If I ever lose my place in you
(If I ever lose my place in you)
I'll just keep on reading till I'm through
(I'll just keep on reading till I'm through)

If I ever lose my place
If I ever lose my place
If I ever lose my place
If I ever lose my place...in you

A correction: "That didn't start with a gypsy curse, but" should be "That didn't always start with a gypsy curse, but." I left out the "always", dagnab it.

Cool topic. Makes me recall all the times I started to read "Dune" and then put it down soon after. Finally read it, liked it, but never wanted to read it again.

You too? I tried to read "Dune" three or four times, but, unlike you, could never get past the first chapter or two and finally gave up. It's rather daunting, especially with all those glossaries, appendices, etc.

Had a friend who insisted I had to keep trying. I think the experience left me scarred:

Chapters play on my senses of annoyment
Chapters seem to offer me all boredom with no relief
Authors ought to write words to enhance some enjoyment
Instead it's like glass shards in my eyes, yuck!

If I ever make my way through Dune
I will hem'rhage sand, and worms, and goo

Hey, you ought to finish that! Or maybe do a parody of "Brigadoon."

"Dune" upon reading offers no relief Worlds of wonder mixed-in with disbelief Oh God, how I wish this novel was brief But the Chapters never seem to cease!!!
