The Lyrics

This is what enters my mid at 3 AM on a weekend
Saturday running down the stairs
Take a bowl of corn flakes and plop down in our chairs
They come on at the break of dawn
And one by one... they play on
Thundercats; Garfield and Friends
Gummi Bears, Voltron, and X-Men
NICK and FOX and ABC
As 99 Great Cartoons find me

99 great cartoons
Floating through the TV waves
Panic strikes don't worry though
There's something here for everyone
Muppet Babies spring to life
GI Joe's lessons on strife
Tale Spin is in the sky
As 99 great cartoons go by.

99 yes Chip and Dale
99 shows of Duck Tales
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Helps NBC clear the hurdles
Saturday we've waited for
Denver the Last Dinosaur!
Quality Viewing on the line
As 99 great cartoons fly by

Captain Planet, Darkwing Duck
Another C.O.P.S. show I'm in LUCK!
Everyone's a Johnny Bravo
Everyone's a hero there
There is simply no debate
Weinerville can clean the plate
Tiny Toons is drawing nigh
As 99 great cartoons pass by
99 GREAT CARTOONS PASS BY!!

99 shows I have watched
And everyone a great cartoon
But now they're over and I'm sitting numb
On my couch and feeling glum
Can I get one more show today
Just to send me on my way
But "Hang Time's" on because it's noon
That is NOT a great cartoon....

I thought it was hilarious!! and very original, i can relate since i love the song, 99 red balloons, and 99 luftballons and i watched cartoons in the 80's, i can definitely relate since i grew up in the 80s and the song and the cartoons really say it all!

While I was born in the 1980s, I know about most of the shows you mention. I really enjoyed this song.

My son would love this one.

(ABC) Ahh, memories. Unfortunately my childhood verged on the end of such classics and the dawning of all these lame-o Manga cartoons and computer- generated puppets. Are any of you Americans familiar with 'The Ferals'? These really cheesily done puppets of a Rat, a Cat, A Dog and A Rabbit that fill their hsows with fart humour and various oozing liquids. True childish entertainment... Anyway, this parody is a great tribute to all kiddie cartoons.
Melhi - August 04, 2004 - Report this comment
N - with a couple of rare exceptions, I've never cared much for cartoons or animation in general, but this is a wonderful piece that almost makes me forget I'd have hated sitting inside watching cartoons on Saturday mornings! Very nicely done.

Yes this was turn of the century 02-03.... before comments were around, but the lists were up, so that's how we got a lot of votes, and that's why they're all still here... because WE'RE OLD! =)
Phil Alexander - August 05, 2004 - Report this comment
Thought I'd commented on this already... way back when: come to think of it, I probably read this one in the time BC (before comments). It is kind of fun...

99? that's too much but I do like Duck Tales, Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, Tale Spin, and Darkwing Duck.
Craig - January 13, 2005 - Report this comment
As far as parodies go, it's fairly well-written. But to not include Looney Tunes -- the greatest cartoons of all time? It's a travesty. And I disagree that Denver The Last Dinosaur was anything like "quality viewing."
Agrimorfee - March 29, 2005 - Report this comment
(ABC Playoff) This song needs to be put in a time capsule as a relic describing the last vestiges of what we know as "Saturday Morning Cartoon". Life has not been the same. ;)
Spaff.com - March 30, 2005 - Report this comment
Holy crap - 193 votes?! Well, then, here's #194. I kinda miss the Saturday morning ritual of presweetened cereal and prefab animation. Now it's cigars and porn. Heh heh. Just kidding. I don't smoke.

( ABC 2004 Winners) DKTOS, but you surely know your cartoons!
