Song Parodies -> We're Lost
| Original Song Title: | "That's All" |
| Original Performer: | Genesis |
| Parody Song Title: | "We're Lost" |
| Parody Written by: | Jeff Reuben |
Just when I thought everything was alright
I made a turn left when I should have turned right
It's always the same, it's just a shame, we're lost
We drove through the day, into the night
Our destination is nowhere in sight
Always the same, it's just a shame, we're lost
Light turns green, we start to go
Where we'll end up, I don't know
Our map's stretched out from the roof down to the floor
But why does it always seem to be
Don't know where to go, and we can't find the keys
It's always the same, it's just a shame, we're lost
Radio's on, compass is off
Making me feel like I'm driving too much
Following you, I know we'll never get there on time.
We drove through the day, into the night
Left on my lights now that wasn't too bright!
Following you, I know we'll never get there on time.
Light turns green, we start to go
Where we'll end up, I don't know
Our map's stretched out from the roof down to the floor
But why does it always seem to be
Don't know where to go, and we can't find the keys
It's always the same, it's just a shame, we're lost
But I don't know where I'm supposed to go
There's no point in trying to pretend
It took hours to find the house, now I'm screwed
But I won't admit that to my friends...

This is one of my favorite songs by you, along with "I Have to Pee Now"... the pacing's great, and it's very funny...
This turned up when I was searching for "That's All" because I was thinking about doing exactly the same parody - the lines:
I made a turn left when I should have turned right
It's always the same, it's just a shame, we're lost
...are exactly the sort of thing I was thinking of :-) Great minds think alike and all that
Phil

Yes they do =) I came up with that one a few years ago when buddy of mine got lost driving to his own house. He drove around for about an hour, even though he was only about 5 minutes from his house at several points (but he won't admit that to his friends).
Righteous Parody! to a Righteous Song! The pacing sweet , and the lyrics funny , what more can I say>?
(ABC) DKTOS but it was a funny read!
(ABC-W) DKTOS but read well.
I can relate to this subject, I oftne have to grab the wheel from Mum whilst she unfolds a map the size of a small African nation across the dashboard.
Mari was an English major and a wordsmith, but when driving, there are four words she does not know.....north, south, east and west.
(ABC) A hard-drivin' tune.
(ABC-W) Don't ask me for directions. I'm terrible with maps.
One of the big differences between men and women is that women stop to ask for directions when they're lost. This parody does a very good job of showing what men do.
(ABC) I have this thing about having to hold the map in my own hands....great job!
ABC--this TOTALLY made me laugh out loud, Jeff! Excellent!
Great Job Jeff!
If there's one thing that HASN'T gotten lost yet, it's your talent. Great pacing, great wordplay and clever rhymes: 5-5-5.
(ABC) DKTOS, but looks good. Now stop and ask for directions... :-)
(ABC) Very nice! I didn't know the song, either... that's what Kazaa is for :D. You did a great job on this one. 5'd.
I thought this was excellent, Jeff.
Very good.
Thought I remembered this... then saw that I'd commented already :-)
(ABC W) Wow! I never would have guessed so many people here would not know "That's All"...It's usually ME that doesn't know the song "everybody" knows...but, surprise, I DO know this one...and this is really a gem, Jeff. Plus, I just heard it while shopping at the local Albertson's Super Market last weekend...whatever one thinks of Phil Collins in general this was really a catchy sounding OS...5's for this excellent piece, Sir...
AWESOME! There's no losing here!
(ABC-W) This has never happened to me..hehehe. 555
Wow...this parody's been around for almost two years and I'm just now checking it out? Well I'm glad I stumbled upon it; I liked it very much. I thought that the first verse was creative; it flowed well with the original (especially with the opposites). I've been lost myself a few times, especially when I'm driving and can't hold the map on my lap. Most of the time I do know where I'm going. 5-5-5 for you, Jeff.
Thank you Serafina! And...wow, a long list of people
