** 300 boats= was goal of Doenitz to patrol N Atlantic and strangle Britain into defeat. He only had maybe 100 at any given time. But still the KM U-boats sunk 15 million tons by themselves, rendering the surface fleet practically useless except for the commerce raiders. German S-boats were also effective on the coasts. In all, the KM with all resources killed close to 20 million tons in WW2 (Fw-200 Condor included)
