| Parody Song Title: | "Happy Together at 35th Reunion" |
| Parody Written by: | Aisling |
I was asked to write and perform something for my 35th high school reunion --this was the result. I got to sing it in front of the whole class and accompany myself on guitar, after several glasses of wine. Notes: Miss Kilgore was our gym teacher, and our local heartthob band was called The Escavels. The red-faced man was our math teacher.John Belushi attended my high school and graduated the year before I did.
Imagine me and you, in '64
All kneeling in our PE class, with Miss Kilgore
Who sent us home unless our dresses touched the floor
Whatever the weather,
The boys with rivet jeans were a disgrace
The Fashion Police had rules to keep us in our place
Our yearbooks look like relics now, from outer space
All happy together
Can't believe we're here, and we're all fifty-three, oh what a life
When you're with me, I'm eighteen again and I'm free, for just one night
And then our sophomore year, in '65
The pool hall was the place to be, oh what a dive
Youth Center with the Escavels, the girls all sighed
So happy together,
The Beatles ruled our lives, Paul was our flame
We passed our notes in study hall, and who's to blame?
That red-faced man would glare at us, what was his name?
So happy together
Can't believe we're here, and we're all fifty-three, oh what a life
When you're with me, I'm eighteen again and I'm free, for just one night
In '66 we learned to drive, oh happy day
Cock Robin and the drive-in show, at the Cascade
The ninth row was the place to be, we had it made
So happy together
With hippies on the scene, we grew our hair
And sideburns made our teachers groan, in deep despair
But sock it to me, we were young, we didn't care--
So happy together
Can't believe we're here, and we're all fifty-three, oh what a life
When you're with me, I'm eighteen again and I'm free, for just one night
In '67 we could see-- the end in sight
Our swamp coats and our paisley shirts, were such a fright
Belushi made us laugh out loud, in great delight
So happy together
Before we knew it, it was '68
And time to say farewell to friends, and graduate
But here we are again tonight – it's really great
So happy together..so happy togetherwe're happy together
(bah, bah, bah, bah.. etc.)
All kneeling in our PE class, with Miss Kilgore
Who sent us home unless our dresses touched the floor

Ah...giving me something to look forward to, eh? I think your high school memories are more song worthy than mine, though. It's just not that lyrical to croon about which one of the girls in my group of friends had the biggest bangs on any given day...; ) Nicely done!
What a sweet song. Esp liked the line "When your'e with me/ eighteen again..." I'll bet there was not a dry eye in the house.
This was sweet, Aisling. Last year was my 20th (sshhh, don't tell anyone); unfortunately, I missed it due to living 10,000 miles away from my school. 555
What a delightful way to entertain your class of '68. I am sure it was a big success. Very nice job.
I'm not even 35 yet, and some bastard forgot to invite me (along with half the class) to my 10th reunion. This was very well done.
excellent aisling - did "sock it to me" take me back to those swingin' sixties? You bet your sweet bippy it did - 555
Aisling, that had to be great, performing in front of your class! Kristof, where's the dedication?
