Parody Song Title:

"Lift Tank Levkov"

Parody Written by:

Robert D. Arndt Jr.

The Lyrics

In the Soviet Union in the 1930s an attempt was made to create an amphibious hover tank based on Levkov's lift engines. A quarter scale model was built, but then it was assumed that the design was rejected. However, photographic proof shows an actual armored vehicle in the field with a bigger gun. Photo at the bottom. Information in lyrics is provisional.
Levkov — what's a Levkov?
It's a hover tank you won't believe
2 crew, maybe 10 tons,
First armed with a Degtyarev MG
10-13 mm armor would be weak
quite easy for any German tank to beat
Vortex engines for the Levkov
Two 725 hp M-25s
Vortex lift time
4-5" air cushion with a louver drive!!!

I don't know jack about the subject but this question crossed my mind: Why are they called Hover crafts? Any connection to President Hoover?

Peter, you might be surprised to know that Sweden first thought up the hovercraft design in 1716 by Emanuel Swedenborg! The Austrians were first to build an air cushion boat in 1915, followed by Levkov's L series of boats and the weird amphibious vehicle here. In 1944 in the US, Fletcher designed his Glidemobile and THEN postwar Saunders-Roe is credited with inventing the hovercraft as SR-N.1. Today, the US, UK, and Russia have huge assault hovercraft. Germany has rescue and firefighter hovercraft...
