The Lyrics

For unknown reasons, this Canadian-New Zealand-produced animated TV series was cancelled before its scheduled broadcasting debut in 2006.
Now here is a tale worth relating
This boy named Dave
That kid isn't sanitary

I'm strange, you see, I don't need no normal playthings
I'd rather play around in crummy dustbins
Check out all the vermin that spawn there in the night
'Cause I love biology
So

One day when I foraged and dug in sewage
Found a maggot nest where DDT was leakin'
So I grabbed my comb and took one maggot home
Now he's my maggot

Oh wow, holy cow
Dave's got a maggot, and they're best friends now!

Maggot sqeaks, he wriggles with such great bliss
Cute 'lil' guy, just give a big hug and kiss

Oh wow, holy cow
With my good help, he'll be a fly someday....

Not bad but the jump between third person and first person was confusing. Who is the I referring to: Dave or the maggot? Never heard of this cartoon.

The format of the parody is same as the OS-- "Jane"/"Dave" sings the first person lines, another soloist (in the beginning) and a chorus would be singing the third person lines ("Hey now"/"Oh wow!"). It has been airing in the US on the QUBO digital TV network for some time. It is a great series, with funny and intelligent (but not cloying) stories about friendship, values and integrity. It was co-created by the WETA workshop, using the same motion-capture technology utilized in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy (but on a smaller, simpler scale). Check it out.

Now hearing the OS I know what's going on. This was pretty cute although it's really gross. How is that possible?

(Artistry) Very cutesy for a gross little critter. Never seen the show, but the overall cutesyness of the OS helps pull along my interest. You added your Aggy spin to it, and I liked that. This is a very you kind of parody. Like an Aggy sampler. Nice.

I can see why it's canned.

(Artistry) Great parody here, awesome send-up of "a boy and his [x]" type shows. It'd work great as a show-in-a-show in Grossology. 555!

Well done! You took a seemingly sweet original show theme and made it something that South Park would spoof. I am picturing that intro now, funny stuff!
